Job Summary :
This is an exciting role in a CLIA and CAP-certified laboratory. You will gain extensive experience that you can use in the ever-changing and developing world of genetics.
The work performed in our biobank lab is primarily genetic testing that is returned to patients at UCH through the electronic health record.
This position includes record keeping (hospital admin) corresponding to UCHealth guidelines and entering results in Epic as required through normal operational services while complying with HIPAA.
The PGx results go back into the patient’s chart in conjunction with Drug-Gene pairs where interruptive and non-interruptive CDS are fired in the chart.
This information is used to change a patient’s drug therapy. We have validated the GI ONC Pilot where certain oncology drugs can be toxic unless the UGT1A1 and DPYD variants are returned to the physician Molecular platform.
Key Responsibilities :
This Healthcare Professional will be employed by the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
The duties will include a variety of laboratory functions, including but not limited to the following :
- Laboratory procedures including analysis of clinical and research samples by molecular biology methods.
- Genetic testing of human samples in a clinical laboratory environment.
- Specimen management, including accessioning and sample tracking.
- DNA extraction, quantification, and quality control assays.
- Various molecular genetics and genomic assays including microarray, Sanger sequencing, genotyping, data analysis, assay result interpretation, and proper maintenance and management of laboratory records.
- General laboratory duties including reagent lot validation, inventory management, laboratory maintenance projects, quality control, and quality assurance activities.
- Knowledge and ability to work in a CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act) Accredited laboratory as well as compliance with the CAP (College of American Pathologists) in all laboratory duties.
- Maintaining compliance with HIPAA and other mandated OIT (Office of Information Technology) regulations.
