This position would mainly work within our xEV division. This xEV division designs and manufactures our largest lithium-ion battery packs and chargers for a diverse range of motive power markets.
Engineers in this division work with leading fortune 500 OEM customers contributing to major global transformations including the electrification of vehicles, and the introduction of robotic / autonomous systems.
Position Summary
The Senior System Engineer is the key stakeholder for all interface specific requirements, architectures and designs. This individual will be responsible for the successful development and production launch of battery pack designs to be utilized in low voltage and high voltage products for various markets, applications, and customers.
The projects may have varying levels of complexity and ambiguity thereby requiring that the candidate possess appreciable initiative, originality, ingenuity and excellent problem-solving skills.
The ideal candidate will have excellent circuit design and analysis skills, system integration experience, ability to read through code, and a great understanding of power electronic circuits.
The ideal candidate is also a detail-oriented individual with requirements management experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work cross-functionally with various global design sites to develop, test, and verify robust system solutions to meet a varied set of requirements.
- Lead engagements with various external and internal stakeholders to define electrical, mechanical, software, safety, test, manufacturing, and other related requirements.
- Create and manage specifications to capture system, sub-system, and component level requirements across all disciplines.
- Collaborate with software engineering and product management to execute agile development of software and continuous improvement of product performance.
- Lead the development of functional safety concepts and their corresponding implementations to achieve desired safety levels.
- Support component selection / optimization with the design teams to ensure interface compatibility and requirements compliance.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and test engineers to generate test reports, FMEA and DFM reports to minimize mass production issues and control production costs.
- Support bring-up and debugging of new prototypes including necessary modifications to components / interfaces.
- Support onsite customer integration efforts globally.
- Provide necessary sustaining support to existing products including root cause analysis for any issues that may arise in the field.
- Lead, train and guide less experienced engineers.
- Establish a culture of learning, openness, and accountability.
Qualifications
- BS, MS or PhD in Battery, Electrical, or Software Engineering preferred.
- More than 5 years of system engineering experience working with electrical systems.
- More than 3 years of battery management, system design, or automotive experience preferred.
- Experience with new product introductions from conception all the way through start of mass production in the consumer, telecom, automotive, and / or military industries.
- Must be a detail-oriented individual with experience in engineering requirements management
- Must have a solid understanding of digital and analog circuitry. Strong understanding of DC power electronics is required.
- Experience with EMI, EMC, electrical and validation testing of battery packs is preferred.
- Experience with designing to functional safety standard ISO26262 or other functional safety standards is preferred.
- Strong quantitative, design, analytical, and problem-solving skills required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products required.
