Position Summary
Join our dynamic team in the Health Promotion and Education department as an adjunct instructor, where you will have the opportunity to teach various special topics courses and / or core program courses that delve into health promotion and related subjects, all through the lens of equity and social justice.
We are looking for passionate educators who can teach the following courses :
- HPM 394 -Special Topics in Health Promotion : Promoting Respectful Relationships (Summer 2024)
- HPM 420 - Epidemiology and Health Care Statistics 5 CR (fall 2024)
Instructors who also have expertise that allow teaching other courses are highly desired.
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.
Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $5,716.52 - $6,968.62 . Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments.
Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement.
Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment / project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment.
All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

Eligible employees are faculty who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions of higher education for two consecutive quarters are eligible for health and dental insurance at the start of the second consecutive quarter.
In addition to teaching, faculty maintains office hours and may participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

The Health Promotion and Education (HPM) department at Bellevue College is a vibrant academic community dedicated to advancing public health knowledge and practice.

All courses meet in-person on Wednesday’s between the hours of 4pm-9pm.
Essential Functions
- Teach a 1-5 credit Lecture class.
- Teach in face-to-face settings and / or synchronous and / or asynchronous virtual settings.
- Prepare course materials, including varied assessments of student knowledge.
- Hold weekly office hours in accordance with the current faculty contract and generally assist students in person one-on-one and / or both through electronic media and in-person.
- Use data, self-reflection, and student / colleague feedback to revise your instruction, improve student success and better serve historically underserved, underrepresented, or marginalized student populations (e.
g., students with disabilities, Black and Indigenous students of color, first-generation college students, LGBTQIA+ students, veterans, English language learners, etc.).
Grade and / or provide useful and timely feedback to students in a way that promotes student understanding and improvement.
Assign overall course grades.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to student success through fostering a positive and caring learning environment where diversity and pluralism are valued.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree from any field (like MPA, MBA) with relevant certification in public health or specializations in related health topics from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated expertise or professional experience in the subject area(s) being taught, such as health promotion, epidemiology, public health policy, suicide prevention, violence prevention, mental health promotion, or related fields.
- Previous experience working with students, preferably at the high school or community college level, with a strong commitment to student-centered learning and fostering a supportive educational environment.
- Knowledge of and commitment to promoting equity and social justice in public health practice and education.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and support students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Public health, Health education, Health promotion from an accredited institution.
- Teaching or professional experience in public health, health promotion, health education.
- Experience completing tasks independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach in traditional, hybrid and fully online environments .
- Demonstrated experience working collegially with diverse colleagues in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development to maintain currency in field (e.g., involvement in relevant professional activities or organizations, etc.).
- Flexibility and adaptability to teach various courses within the department, including both core program courses and special topics courses as needed.
