Are you an Experienced Optician looking for a change and a way to give back to your community?
PDS Consultants, Inc. is looking for an experienced reliable Traveling Optician to work with our Nations Veterans at numerous VA Medical Center across the nation!
For this position you would be based out of the VA Hospital here in Louisville, KY and would travel on an as needed basis while still being guaranteed 40 hours week.
Starting pay $23-$26 hr plus a $4.22 Health and Wellness benefit. 3% commission on all sales.

Essential Functions :
- Interpret prescriptions and take proper eye and facial measurements to correctly fit ophthalmic eyewear
- Increase sales by guiding patients when selecting frames and lens types for proper fit and styling
- Must have thorough knowledge of all Frames, Lenses, and Coatings available
- Must know and be able to perform proper adjustment techniques to make necessary repairs and adjustments
- Must clean and maintain displays, inventory, order frames, office supplies, etc.
- Basic bookkeeping duties associated with tracking patient’s orders and recording purchases, collecting payment and other necessary information for each patient, preparing invoices and daily report for the laboratory, entering orders in our software systems
- Provide customer service to patients, answer phone, follow up with orders, files, etc.
Additional Traveling and Training Essential Functions :
- Must have the ability to travel at times with short notice to provide substitution for regular staff. Dependability and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
- Conduct store visits, review items and complete store checklists at each location traveled
- Provide accurate, concise, and timely report back to store manager on condition of store including visual, financial, and overall running of operation.
- Must be able to provide individual instruction and training to facilitate learning to new hires or existing staff through a variety of delivery methods including one on one instruction and on-the-job coaching.
- Identify and communicate additional training needs by evaluating strengths and weaknesses.
- Must have extensive knowledge of VA Optician essential functions, the company’s Data Entry, VA and Company policies and processes to provide proper instruction in a professional manner.
- Must be able to identify and resolve problems, which may include escalating issues to management.
- Must be familiar with company structure, store set up and know the required differences when working in different states or VISN’s.
Work Environment
This position operates mostly in an office setting located within either a VA Hospital, outpatient clinic, or a retail store.
This position requires someone who can work independently with little supervision. The person in this role routinely uses standard optical equipment such as a lensometer and pupilometer.#JT
