The Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Psychologist.

About the Opportunity

The Psychologist provides clinical services (short-term individual and group counseling), crisis management, and outreach / consultation), for undergraduate, graduate and professional students, as well as supervision and training in the predoctoral internship program.

What you'll do :

  • Provide multiculturally sensitive brief counseling (virtual and in person) for individuals with diverse presenting concerns.
  • Provide clinical services including but not limited to assessment, treatment planning, short-term counseling, group therapy, crisis intervention services, psychoeducation, and case management.

Provide clinical services both in-person and through telehealth platforms.

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and intake evaluations, triage, and participation in CCCPS’ crisis intervention services, drop-in clinic, and afterhours crisis coverage (initial responses and crisis stabilization provided by ProtoCall staff).
  • Administer and document risk assessments and risk reduction interventions. Provide related case consultation with staff and trainees.
  • Provide case management for WVU students who require longer term or specialized care.
  • Provide consultation and outreach to clients and their families, WVU faculty / staff, and the university community.
  • Complete required documentation in an electronic health record system and quality assurance activities including routine monitoring and management of student treatment compliance (, missed appointments, cancellations, etc.

in accordance with agency policies and state and federal regulations.

  • Attend case conference, committees, task forces, and other meetings related to the mission of the Center and the university.
  • Serve as a liaison to various campus stakeholders and ensure that students, faculty and staff are provided with timely information regarding CCCPS and student mental health concerns and resources.
  • Actively promote multicultural competence and awareness in both training and the broader center operations and culture.
  • Provide clinical supervision to trainees and facilitate seminars on a variety of clinical or professional topics.
  • Actively participate in the agency predoctoral internship training program.
  • Participate in agency clinical and outreach assessment activities.

Qualifications

  • Completed doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology (, , or from an APA-accredited program.
  • Supervised practica in providing psychological services, including adult outpatient individual counseling / therapy, and group counseling.
  • One-year, full time predoctoral internship in an APA-accredited Professional Psychology program that includes a primary rotation in adult outpatient counseling / therapy and counseling.
  • Experience providing clinical services in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Clinical experience or specialty training in one or more of the following areas : working with BIPOC, International and / or LGBTQ+ students, multicultural counseling, disordered eating / eating disorders, trauma, substance use disorders, military veterans, or telehealth.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural humility and affirmative care for all students.
  • Experience providing short-term counseling.
  • Experience with crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to provide multiculturally sensitive services.
  • Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team (including social workers, counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists).
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to proficiently conduct, document and especially evaluate individual, and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and consultation / outreach with a college-aged population.
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to proficiently conduct and evaluate supervision and training.
  • Ability to utilize an electronic health record system.
  • Geographical availability to provide timely on campus emergency responses during on call weeks (2- 4 weeks per year).
  • Practical and ethical knowledge regarding the provision of telehealth services.

Requirements

Licensed (or license-eligible within 18 months) Psychologist within the State of West Virginia.
