General Description :
Schedule : Monday-Friday, 8 : 15-5 : 15 (40 hours / week)
This position will involve performing ophthalmic testing on patients of all ages and abilities, assisting the Ophthalmologists in-clinic, and administrative tasks.
This position will include on-the-job training. Prior experience in ophthalmology / optometry and / or the medical field is preferred but if you are motivated and willing to learn please apply!
Duties and Responsibilities :
Obtain and record thorough patient history / chief complaint
Perform patient testing (visual acuity, color vision, pupillary assessment, confrontation visual fields, tonometry, etc.)
Refractometry
Assist Physicians during examinations, instill eye drops for children and adults
Surgical assisting with minor in-office procedures
Operation and basic maintenance of ophthalmic equipment (including autorefractor, automated / manual lensometers, Humphrey visual field, OCT, IOL Master, A-Scan, iTrace, corneal pachymeter)
Basic surgical instrument care (use of ultrasonic sterilizer, autoclave)
Using electronic medical records software to enter patient information and prescribe medications
Assisting with administrative tasks (taking calls, responding to messages from patients, faxing, scanning and filing of documents)
Cleaning, organization and stocking of exam rooms and clinic areas
Additional Skills :
This position will require learning general medical knowledge : basic understanding of ocular anatomy and physiology, ocular diseases and emergencies, medical terminology
Providing patient instruction / education / assistance when needed
Qualifications :
Minimum high school diploma or GED
If not COA certified, must obtain COA through JCAHPO within 18 months of start date
