Department Summary :
This position will work across MITRE to ensure that the Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) technical capabilities offered by MITRE Labs meets the work program’s needs and that the technical products generated are of the highest quality.
Roles & Responsibilities :
Lead execution of a technical quality program, in partnership with the relevant program divisions, to ensure PNT products are independent, data-driven, technically sound, and properly reviewed.
An emphasis will be placed on key products identified in the PNT strategy.
- Ensure the technical strength of the PNT work program by shaping its content, participating in technical product definition and reviews, and bringing a perspective that reflects knowledge of the domain, understanding of the state of the art and practice in technology, and comprehension of MITRE and key external communities
- Support project leaders by ensuring that they are continuously and effectively leveraging MITRE’s PNT capabilities and investments from across the corporation to maximize impact to our sponsors.
- Identify the need for new capabilities to support the work program modeling and simulation tools, laboratory facilities).
Advocate for investment and lead / guide the development of them.
- Support and / or lead MITRE’s PNT Platform.
- Identify opportunities for and lead / support development of new business, both internal to MITRE’s FFRDCs and directly via MITRE Labs.
- Work with other chief engineers and chief scientists, to support MITRE’s research program MIP). Identify and prioritize PNT research and development needs.
Work in partnership with staff to develop research proposals.
- Play a key technical role on one or more projects within MITRE’s existing PNT work program.
- Lead and / or support the development and implementation of MITRE’s PNT strategy.
- Lead L PNT core competency. Advocates for needed investments in equipment, facilities, technical training, etc.
- Works in close partnership and coordination with MITRE PNT Leadership PNT Fellows, L Management, Program Division Management and Project Leadership) and Division / Department Chief Engineer(s).
Basic Qualifications :
- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
- BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field
- Experience with US government systems and US government research ecosystem.
- Strong technical background and research experience in one or more PNT technologies.
- Willingness / passion for mentoring and developing technical staff
- Ability to work with sponsors to understand their use cases and formulate a path forward. Excellent oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to build consensus and partnerships across industry, academia, and sponsors to advance state of the art.
- This position requires a minimum of % hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Ability to obtain a Top Secret or higher clearance
- Publications in peer reviewed journals relevant to PNT
- External presence relevant to PNT conference events, articles, online interviews, social media)
- Participation in, or deep familiarity with, key recent MITRE PNT efforts
