Sedation Nurse- Vet Tech Anesthesia

Penn Vet is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Anesthesia Nurse to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible forproviding general anesthesia and sedation to small animals, including critical and non-critical cases.

Your expertise will be vital in developing individualized anesthetic protocols, conducting physical exams, and overseeing the animals' recovery.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for sedating small animals for diagnostic imaging and other short procedures primarily on the first floor.
  • Work closely with radiology service to coordinate the timing of cases to be sedated.
  • Monitor patients to ensure smooth recovery. Some patients may go to recovery if deemed appropriate.
  • Work closely with the anesthesia service to ensure quality patient care.
  • Consult with anesthesiologists regarding sedation protocols as needed.
  • Assist in MRI and CT only when time allows. Sedation cases take priority.
  • Maintain controlled drug logs
  • Create training opportunities for new specialty nurses to learn sedation procedures.
  • Collaborate with Radiology to create a mechanism in which the sedation nurse is aware of all procedures for the day.
  • Consult with other services regarding appropriate sedation protocol for their particular patient.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and collegially with all staff members.

Qualifications

Veterinary Technician C : CVT and 3-5 years of experience

Veterinary Technician D : CVT and 5-8 years of experience

Veterinary Technician E : CVT and 8 + years of experience

Must be able to work independently as well as with a team.

Requirements

This position requires lifting 25-50 pounds, frequent bending and kneeling. Standing for long periods of time. The working conditions can be noisy due to dogs barking, imaging equipment.

Radiation safety must be followed.
