We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Research and Development Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in FEA software, an understanding of machining, a passion for innovation, and a proven track record breaking down problems.

This role involves planning out validation activities, providing expert guidance on FEA applications, and guiding development of our upcoming product Distortio.

Oversee FEA analysis within the Research and Development team for creating new technologies

  • Provide expert support and guidance on FEA applications to internal teams
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of software tools to ensure reliability and accuracy; Oversee any FEA DOE creation
  • Prepare and present technical reports, research papers, and documentation
  • Mentor and train junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Assist with technical demonstrations for government programs
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in FEA technology and industry trends
  • Assist on commercial project and material model creation when necessary

Distortio Product Owner

  • Collaborate with development and product quality team to define project requirements
  • Develop and implement new software tools and features, ensuring they meet industry standards and client needs
  • Enhance existing software capabilities, optimizing performance and user experience
  • Attend scrum meetings and prioritize activities
  • Stay current with the market trends, technology, and competitors
  • Travel required 25%

Requirements

  • Demonstrate Third Wave’s core values (Driven, Takes Pride, Critical Thinking, Solution Oriented, and Collaborative)
  • Master’s in mechanical engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field of industry experience
  • Proficient in using FEA software tools (e.g., AdvantEdge, ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Machining knowledge
  • Understanding of automotive or aerospace markets
  • Strong ability to build relationships with customers, sub-contractors, and government officials
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate across the organization that includes software developers, product quality, and market facing colleagues
  • A track record of published research in the field of FEA is a plus.
  • Experience working in an agile environment is desired
