About the Indiana Veteran's Home :
The Indiana Veterans' Home is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Originally created to care for veterans of the Civil War, the Indiana Veterans’ Home welcomed its first resident in 1896.
Located on 250+ acres in West Lafayette, IVH is a full-service care facility offering a complete array of services for residents.
The mission of the Indiana Veterans' Home is to honor Indiana's veterans and their spouses by providing the highest level of care in a therapeutic home-like environment, enhancing health and yielding optimal quality of life.

Role Overview :
This role is a secretarial support position in the Indiana Veterans' Home Nursing Department. Performs all aspects of the secretarial duties, with minimal supervision.
Reports to the Assistant Director of Nursing assigned to the respective unit.
Salary Statement :
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $27,;but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life :
- The essential functions of this role are as follows :
- Greets visitors and answers questions in a timely and professional manner.
- Answers the phone within 3 rings in a professional manner
- Prepares reports as assigned by the ADON
- Performs audits as assigned by the ADON
- Completes resident PIL forms upon admission
- Files / scans paperwork as assigned by the ADON
- Answers call lights and relays needs of the resident(s) to appropriate personnel
- Assists in scheduling appointments
- Calls physicians offices to request paperwork
- Assists in meal tray delivery and set up at meal times
- Assists in transport of residents to and from activities
- Assists in running errands to different departments
- Relays information between nursing and other departments
- Other duties as assigned
What You'll Need for Success :
The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have a
High School Diploma or equivalent
Upon entering the role, individuals must have or obtain the following requirements :
- Working knowledge of general office functions and clerical procedures.
- Basic computer skills
- Active listening skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Attention to detail and proofreading skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work with sensitive documents and information, and be privy to sensitive agency information without divulging information to internal or external parties
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to provide effective and professional customer service to internal and external parties.
Supervisory Responsibilities / Direct Reports :
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
