Responsibilities

Basic Purpose Works with the Fire Mitigation Specialist / Fire Chief under general direction of the Director of Grid Operations and Reliability to help coordinate, plan, schedule, train, direct and inspect Company’s NDPP Vegetation Management pole grubbing, Right-of-way vegetation clearing, disaster response, Proactive De-Energization Management and fire stand-by program to ensure safe and reliable electric service for customers throughout the service area.

Responsible to act as Company’s Liaison Officer between Fire departments and Emergency Managers during a natural disaster event in Company’s service area.

Responsible to conduct yearly Incident Command and wildland fire safety classes for field crews and yearly contractor safety classes to fire contractors.

Coordinates contracted fire department crews and equipment effectively to preform ground vegetation management meeting the NDPP preventive maintenance plan, International Wildland-Urban Interface Code, and local Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Coordinates, develops, and maintains an effective, cost-efficient NDPP Vegetation Management Pole Grubbing and ROW clearing program for Company’s service areas by scheduling treatments, maintenance plans, fire stand-by, preparing monthly reports, monitoring progress, resolving invoice conflicts, and reporting expense results.

Responsible to conduct required yearly wildland fire safety classes Company's field personal and yearly contractor safety class to fire contractors.

Assist and help coordinate yearly PSOM trainings with company personal and stakeholders. Also, assist instructing required Incident Command System (ICS) courses to company personal.

Participated in on-call duty officer rotation, to determine credible threats to NV Energy infrastructure and make recommendations for emergency de-energization.

Responsible to respond to the Incident Command Post (ICP) during a natural disaster event to act as the Liaison Officer between Fire and Emergency Managers.

During a Proactive De-Energization Management (PSOM) act as a Liason Officer, Brach Director, Logistics Chief or Planning Chief.

Coordinates with contract foresters on vegetation treatments. Ensures the contractual compliance of the work performed by the fire contractors while maintaining a safe work environment by coordinating safety trainings, enforcing work standards, and performing productivity / job observation field audits of contract labor crews.

Coordinates and manages fire stand-by with fire department contractors and equipment during red flag day and Proactive De-Energization Management (PSOM) event.

Resolves customer, contractor and company complaints or disagreements pertinent to the project by effective liaison activity designed to increase awareness and reduce conflicts.

Ensures all field-related efforts are implemented with attention to accuracy and safety, and that Hazard Mitigation activities adhere to established Best Management Practices.

Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, regulations and NDPP requirements applicable to position and company.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment Education and Work Experience Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or a related field from an accredited school and 6 years fire management, wildland fuels reduction, emergency planning / response or related experience.

Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree, must have a high school diploma and 10 years fire management, wildland fuels reduction, emergency planning / response, or related experience.

Candidates must have completed the following FEMA and NWGS courses :

  • National Wildfire Coordinating (NWCG) S-231 qualified single resource boss including Engine Boss and Crew Boss. NWGC S-290 Intermediate Fire Behavior
  • Incident Command System 100, 200, 300, 700, 800
  • Fire Service Instructor
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of :

  • The Incident Command System with knowledge of the Liaison Officer, Branch Director, Logistics Chief or Planning Chief roles and responsibilities
  • Fire behavior and fire control techniques to reduce the threat of wildfire and improve the capabilities to control such fires
  • Forest health and wildland fire Strategic Planning, Land Use Planning, Public Preparedness, and Hazard Mitigation issues, processes, standards, and proven solutions to conduct vegetation management of ground fuels utilizing various types of fuel removal techniques meeting the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code and Local Community Wildfire Protection Plans.

Demonstrated skills such as :

  • Leadership, decision-making, negotiation, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with all levels of employees to discuss and resolve problems tactfully, courteously, and effectively, and work cooperatively with diverse interest groups
  • Manages time effectively, performs under pressure, and meets deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment and Applications PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Work Environment and Physical Demands Working in both office environment and outdoor weather conditions, and near extreme heat / cold throughout the state.

Some exposure to loud noises may be required. Travel could be in 30-40% within the state

Compensation

Annual Salary : $100,700 (Min) to $118,400 (Mid); Up to 15% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company.

$500.00 on call rotation pay. This is a non-represented position.
