SUMMARY PURPOSE
OF POSITION : As an integral member of the University Marketing team, the Communication Specialist will contribute to the University's marketing and branding initiatives by serving as the key communications liaison for various colleges, departments, and external stakeholders.
This role involves independently and collaboratively researching, writing, editing, and reviewing content for web, social media, print, and email communications, with a focus on supporting enrollment and enhancing the University's reputation.
In this role, you will work with students, faculty, staff and external audiences to create compelling content that will be used in a variety of media channels including web, social media, digital advertising, recruitment materials, video scripts and more.
In addition, follow the University's best practices to build and / or support student academic success and retention, and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.
EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Researches, writes, reviews and edits strategic communications for various media that support the university brand, marketing, recruitment and public relations efforts including web stories, printed marketing materials, social media content, video scripts and other communications.
- Function as a marketing liaison, working closely with college(s) and departments to identify communications needs.
- Develops content and strategy for social media channels for various campus clients. Manages social media content calendars and coordinates with social media account managers to ensure consistent and accurate messaging.
- Contributes to social media content calendar for university channels.
- Monitor social media channels for engagement opportunities and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
- Makes marketing communications recommendations to college / campus stakeholders and initiates requests across marketing channels by working directly with marketing team members, ensuring client satisfaction and marketing effectiveness.
- Works closely with campus constituents, develops creative briefs and communication plans.
- Utilizes the university web content management system to maintain current and accurate content for campus constituents, primarily colleges.
- Ensure all content adheres to the University's best practices and guidelines, maintaining a high standard of quality and consistency.
- Manages, develops and implements marketing projects to ensure on-time, on-budget production and delivery of projects.
- Analyzes marketing channels (web, social, email, print) and identifies opportunities or needs for communications. Makes recommendations to college / department and marketing leadership to inform future marketing strategies.
- Liaisons with external constituents to develop communications that support university activities.
- Identifies opportunities for press releases and coordinates with Public Affairs on logistics. Based on need, writes press releases.
- Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends and competitor activities, incorporating relevant findings into content strategies;
communicate findings to university marketing staff.
- Works with the Photographics department to plan photo shoots and secure images for projects.
- Participates in other related groups, committees and panels.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- EDUCATION : Bachelor’s degree
- EXPERIENCE : 3+ years of professional writing and editing experience for print, web, and social media with messages aimed at internal and external university audiences.
Demonstrated experience managing projects from concept through final execution.Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with individuals and groups to accomplish strategic brand communication goals.
OTHER : Ability to travel between campuses and UMass Dartmouth sites. Evening and weekend hours for event coverage as required.
Occasional travel is required to attend off-campus media events and presentations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Professional Writing or related field.
- Three or more years of communication experience in the field of education.
- Experience developing creative briefs or communications plans.
- Strong skills in social media, digital advertising, and e-mail marketing.
- Experience assisting in the production of digital media, . social media, digital advertising, videography and photography.
- Knowledge of AP style
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills across a variety of media.
- Ability to speak to the audience , effectively communicating to undergraduate, graduate, and other audiences.
- Advanced understanding of integrated marketing communications, including social media knowledge, and how to effectively translate brand messages across various mediums.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills to effectively communicate with internal and external audiences.
- Ability to lead and work in a team environment.
- Strong initiative to develop creative approaches and solutions to problems.
- Ability to handle multiple projects independently.
SALARY : $50,288.91 - $62,000
