Title : Principal Electrical Engineer

Job Description :
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team in Merrimack, NH. In this advanced role, you will design electrical and electronic hardware for complex medical instruments within a multi-disciplinary environment.
Your expertise will drive diverse product development efforts and require substantial technical leadership, initiative, and creativity.
Responsibilities :
- Execute specific engineering projects as part of larger program objectives, including product, test equipment, or process design and development.
- Determine design requirements, recommend architecture, and evaluate design alternatives for optimal approaches.
- Collaborate with engineering personnel to resolve complex design issues and manage technical risks.
- Develop requirements, specifications, schematics, simulations, assembly drawings, bills of material, and material cost estimates.
- Design cables and cable harness assemblies, and utilize electronic design tools such as schematic capture.
- Work with service bureaus and suppliers on PCB layout, fabrication, and other design / test activities.
- Develop reliability models for various sub-assemblies and ensure component reliability based on supplier evaluations.
- Review and implement DFM and DFT objectives.
- Prepare technical documents, sub-system and module performance specifications, and engineering specifications for major component purchases.
- Design and evaluate engineering breadboards and prototypes, translating experimental results into design criteria.
- Conduct experiments / tests to determine operating characteristics and assist manufacturing in transitioning from development to production.
- Provide technical support during manufacturing, resolve design issues, and identify replacement components.
- Contribute to engineering project planning and tracking, including task planning, effort estimation, cost estimation, and risk evaluation.
- Communicate project status, schedule conflicts, and resource needs to relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in preparing proposals for new projects and provide technical direction to engineering personnel, primarily technicians.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering and electronic design.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
- Preferred experience with medical devices and / or automation products.
- Technical leadership experience.
- Preferred experience with electromechanical systems, including stepper and servo motors.
- Proficiency in digital and analog circuit design.
- Schematic and PCB design experience.
- FPGA and VHDL design experience preferred.
Additional Skills :
- Experience with processors such as Z180, 8051, PIC, ATmega, ATtiny, 68HCxx, Rabbit 3000, 80188 OMAP3530, and H8S.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Assembly, C, PLM, Visual Basic, Python, and Visual C++.
- Analog design skills in low power, signal conditioning for RTD, LVDT, Thermocouple, and switching regulators.
- Digital design skills in low power, PLD, and medium speed (
- Experience with software tools like AutoCAD, OrCAD, PCAD, Microsoft Office, ViewDraw, Allegro, PADS Viewers, ClearCase, Arena Solutions, Vantive, Documentum, Unix / Linux, and Windows.
- Proficiency in using test and debug equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, meters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, soldering and desoldering equipment, various hand and power tools, JTAG, emulators, and simulation software.
- Manufacturing training in Lean Manufacturing, 6-Sigma, 5S, and DFM.
- Lab experience with Tektronix and Agilent Oscilloscopes, B&K Component Testers, DC Power Supplies, Sweep Function Generators, Multimeters, High Current Pulse Generators, and ITech DC Current Load Bank.
