JOB SUMMARY :
As a Field Service Power Automation-SME-Engineer specializing in power system automation and integration, This position serves as the subject matter expert on IEM’s custom repeatable Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Switchgear products from the field service perspective.
They’re the main and first point of contact for supporting and training internal technicians as well as leading communication with commercial and production teams within IEM.
Responsible for directly troubleshooting, commissioning, collecting data and performing maintenance on switchgear and related core IEM products, including UL891 switchboards.
You will be responsible for redline design support, field implementation support of advanced automation and protective solutions.
This position will also provide technical software and hardware trouble shooting support to the IEM field service technicians on site to enhance the technical performance and knowledge of the field service team throughout North America.
You will work closely with cross-functional IEM teams to integrate current and new technologies, optimize existing systems, and ensure seamless operation across our system network interfacing to the customer SCADA monitoring system / systems.
This technical SME- (Subject Matter Expert) role will be the point of contact for all field service personnel associated with startup, preventative maintenance, emergency call out support and customer support pertaining to IEM power automation products within our equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Design & Development Support :
Assist in development and the implementation of power automation system operations, including control systems, monitoring and data acquisition.
System Integration :
Lead and support the field service team on the integration of new automation technologies with existing power system infrastructure, ensuring compatibility and performance.
System Optimization :
Analyze system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability and scalability of power control and communication systems.
Troubleshooting & Support :
Provide technical and troubleshooting support to the IEM field service team and customer for power automation systems, addressing and resolving issues onsite and remotely in a timely manner.
Project Management Skills :
- Assist in managing complex automation field service projects from concept through implementation, including scope definition, scheduling the technical resource allocation, parts procurement, system risk mitigation management, software setup and configuration requirements.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for automation systems, including design specifications and updates, user manuals, and operational procedures.
- Proven ability to manage complex automation projects, have great technical and communication skills.
Collaboration :
Work with engineering, IT, field service and production teams to ensure alignment of automation strategies with overall business goals and technical requirements.
Compliance :
Ensure all automation solutions comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Innovation :
Stay up to date with the latest advancements in automation technologies and power systems, and proactively propose new solutions and improvements.
TECHNICAL SKILLS :
- Proficiency in automation programming languages and ladder logic (IEC, Python, Java, SQL, HTML)
- Experience and proficient with industrial power system controls and monitoring technologies.
- Communication Protocols-(Modbus / TCP, OPC, DNP3, ARP, IoT, DHCP, HTTP and IP)
- Familiar and Experience with the TCP / IP suite
- Experience with the utilization of Loop2k and Modscan
- Experience working with EPMS and BMS data center systems
- Ability to analyze and interpret engineering documents, codes, standards and technical procedures
- Experience with power system controls engineering, including ATO programming in PLC’s, Protective Relays and HMI’s
- Experience and proficient with the below products associated with the power system controls and monitoring in LV / MV switchgear.

- Strong technical ability related to verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex BMS / EPMS automation systems with field service personnel remotely or in person to resolve technical issues on a customer site.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :
- BSEE or MSEE
- 5 years’ experience as an electrical engineer
- 4 years’ minimum experience working with power control systems, including PLC’s, Protective relays and HMI’s
- Professional Engineer (PE) License a Plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
