Job Description
The Surgical Clinical Reviewer’s (SCR) chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data to the ACHQC (Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative) and other appropriate hernia registries.
This task is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation, and entry of hernia procedures performed at the center.
The SCR works closely with the members of the hernia and general surgery departments to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified.
The SCR shall have access to all relevant patient documentation / reporting systems to ensure data collection. This position works in collaboration with the surgeons, clinical teams, and Quality Department.
Identifies, collects, and reports hernia surgery data accurately and timely for multiple time intervals over the course of the patient’s care through effective utilization of the hospital and surgeons’ office record systems.
Works in collaboration with both clinical and administrative staff across the program to ensure accurate data collection and data reporting.
Represents the hernia program at identified meetings to ensure reliable data collection and reporting, including preparing and presenting hernia data reports.
Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process and quality of patient care.
Establishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community and surgeon offices, especially staff in the surgery, medicine, nursing, medical records, information systems departments, and others whose support is necessary for the management and success for the program.
Serves as an educational resource on the Hernia Data Registry Platform for internal and external audiences by developing educational material and delivering presentations.
Participates in hernia data registry activities such as program teleconferences and program meetings.
Participates in data compilation for research projects, audits, and other center of excellence applications (i.e., private payer)- if applicable.
Supports the HHC hernia data registry by auditing the registry's cases monthly to ensure alignment and data accuracy with ACHQC and the HHC data registry.
Continuously work on identifying processes of improvement
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor’s Degree in science, nursing, data management, or other field related to healthcare is acceptable.
Experience :
- Minimum of 2 years medical / surgical hospital or office nursing experience or experience in clinical research / medical records or clinical quality improvement.
- Clinical knowledge and understanding of patient care related to data collection and identification of areas for quality improvement.
- The ability to learn and utilize new software and web applications for data entry and report generation. Competence with Microsoft Office® (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic statistical skills.
The ability to learn Microsoft Access.
- Competence with Epic EMR documentation.
- Experience gathering information in a complex hospital system environment.
- Highly organized with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize competing tasks with full autonomy.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to articulate clearly and apply sound judgment.
- Ability to travel independently to satellite offices with or without advanced notice.
