Controller - Healthcare
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, treasury, accounting and reporting activities and will play an active role in new acquisition due diligence.
As the number-two executive to the CFO, the Controller will be involved in supporting presentations to the board finance and audit committee and will work closely with the senior leadership team.
The Controller will have primary responsibility for timely completion of the Companys Annual Financial Audits.
The Controller will lead all day-to-day accounting operations for a company with annual revenues of over $500 million. The Controller will directly supervise a team of 8 professionals and indirectly supervise approximately 20 team members.
The Controller will have functional responsibility over general ledger accounting, accounts payable, payroll, cost reporting and grant administration.
In addition, the Controller will work closely with the Companys Revenue Cycle Management and Information Technology teams to ensure our clinical operations, billing and accounting functions have the appropriate internal controls over cash, patient accounting, and billing systems.
The Controller will ensure proper revenue recognition accounting under ASC 606.
The Controller will ensure that the company has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits;
will work closely with program leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations.
In addition, the Controller will partner with the CFO, senior leadership, and the human resources (HR) and information technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and IT functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a BA; CPA required. MBA preferred
- 7 10 years prior accounting and finance experience
- Multi-state healthcare environment experience which bills Medicaid and commercial insurance for reimbursement
- Experience with grant programs is beneficial
- Experience with Great Plains
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Ability to multi-task and handle large volume of detail work accurately and efficiently and meet deadlines
- Compliance with accepted professional standards and practices
- Satisfactory references from employers and / or professional peers
- Satisfactory criminal background check
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
- Coordinate all audit and tax activity with our independent firm(s).
- Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;
- monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the companys financial status;
- Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
- Support the CFO in engaging the boards audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
- Oversee all financial, project / program and grant accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant / fund period;
- coordinate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants;
- Ability to handle stressful situations and interact with others.
- Must be present during working hours at the office for in person meetings and access to a computer without violating company policy.
- Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program vice presidents and financial analysis staff;
continuously collaborate with program vice presidents to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
- Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures and ensure appropriate internal controls are in place in all of our programs.
- Comply with internal financial controls, policies and procedures.

- Participates and contributes to the organizations strategic plan and the establishment of annual goals and budgets.
