We are currently looking for a Director of Safety that is located in the Houston, TX area that can work in a hybrid environment.

The successful candidate will have a background creating and overseeing safety policies and programs for service technicians that utilize a fleet of vehicles.

This individual must have a deep understanding of regulations pertaining to the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Responsibilities :

  • Develop and enforce safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including those mandated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
  • Oversee technician safety programs to meet all regulatory and company standards, including safety while performing job duties, which includes driving to customer sites
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to identify root causes and implement preventive strategies
  • Work closely with internal teams, such as legal, human resources, and operations, to create and execute safety initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including insurance providers, regulatory bodies, and industry associations
  • Track and assess safety and fleet performance metrics to pinpoint trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Prepare and present reports on safety and fleet activities to senior management
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in fleet safety management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Transportation Management, Business Administration or a related field is preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is a plus
  • At least 8-10 years of experience in occupational safety, ideally within an environment that utilizes fleets for service work
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, including DOT rules, OSHA standards, and industry best practices
  • Experience managing fleet vehicle qualifications
  • Proven ability to design and implement effective safety and driver qualification programs
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the capability to influence and engage stakeholders at various levels
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software
  • Experience in preparing and managing departmental budget
  • Must be open to travel when needed for the role
