Job description : In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s control systems aspects.
You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of control systems components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure unique and complex requirements of a project’s control systems aspects are met.
Major Responsibilities :
- Plans, develops, coordinates, reviews and conducts Control Systems work requiring judgment in the design, evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Control Systems engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a project.
- Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of Control Systems utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
- Develops conceptual and detailed designs of Control Systems engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements.
- Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules.
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting.
- Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
- Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of Control Systems aspects of the work.
- Conducts or leads special studies of Control Systems engineering methods, materials and techniques.
- Mentors Control Systems engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development.
- Provides input to and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed.
- Manages control system subconsultants for the development of the control system and documentation.
- Develops and reviews Functional Descriptions and Control System Specifications.
- Manages and reviews functional safety implementation within the Control System.
Education and Experience Requirements :
Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- A certified Functional Safety Engineer, Professional or Expert.
- Broad progressive work experience in design engineering, science or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering or plant operation in large scale mining facilities, bulk-material handling facilities, mineral processing facilities, industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or engineering / construction firms.
- Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computers in the discipline. Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
- Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
- Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved. Broad knowledge of industry / regulatory codes and standards, and design and / or layout criteria pertinent to the particular discipline.
- Knowledge of application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools on a project.
- Skill in oral and written communication. Demonstrated skill in leadership and supervisory experience.
