About MSA West
MSA West is a nonprofit organization with a network of over 40 Muslim student groups at college campuses throughout the state of California, representing more than 3,000 students.
We serve the needs of the larger Muslim student community through programs and resources aimed at supporting their holistic wellbeing, and leadership development to uplift and institutionalize the Muslim student voice.
MSA West is seeking a full-time Executive Director to manage and oversee the overall affairs and direction of the organization as it complies with the organization's mission and objectives.
The Executive Director would set the vision, develop strategic and operational plans, assess and drive organizational priorities, lead fundraising efforts, and provide strategic support to the Board of Trustees, Board of Directors, and staff in operational decisions.

MSA West is seeking a dedicated individual with experience in nonprofit management, strategic planning, community organizing and advocacy, community outreach and base building.
This individual should also have a strong familiarity and commitment to the Muslim community and Islamic principles, student excellence and centrism, and cultural and religious diversity and understanding.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions
ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY
- Setting priorities for the organization that are informed by vision, stakeholders and data
- Implement strategic plan objectives and tactics, and support to Board of Trustees and Board of Directors in organizational priority evaluation and capacity building
GOVERNANCE AND BOARD RELATIONS
- Maintains avenues of consistent communication with both the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors to ensure alignment with organizational vision and strategic plan
- Recommend policies and procedures to streamline organization communication plans and strengthen institutional practices
- Support operations and other duties and responsibilities, as needed
DEVELOPMENT AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Work with Board of Trustees to engage with donors and funders
- Develop & maintain critical relationships with supporters, partners, and funders
- Support mutual aid campaigns including evaluation and disbursement of financial support grants
- Coordinate with Board of Trustees Treasurer on financial reporting, finance operations and protocol assessment, and protocol and procedure development, if necessary
STAFF SUPERVISION / MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS
- Lead hiring process for staff in coordination with Board of Trustees
- Manage and direct staff to work on organizational priorities and goals
- Support staff in setting yearly goals and tasks in accordance to the organization’s current needs and focuses
- Offer support on advocacy and operational decisions as needed
- Identify and provide opportunities for staff training and development
- Conduct quarterly check-ins and evaluations of staff performance
- Report monthly progress to the Board of Trustees
PROGRAMS
- Provide support to the Board of Directors and staff on major decisions for all MSA West programming
- Oversee program execution by staff and Board of Directors to ensure consistency with organizational vision and priorities, and excellence in program quality
Essential Minimum Qualifications :
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience and 2+ years of significant leadership experience as a student or community leader
- Program, project, and staff management experience
- Experience in developing and executing strategic plans
- Experience working with Muslim communities
- Experience with fundraising and familiarity with grant processes
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and public speaking skills
- Ability to work independently, think creatively, and prioritize multiple tasks
- Experience in crisis management
- Ability to occasionally work nights and weekends
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution
Preferred Qualifications :
- Fluency in Islamic philosophy and thought
- A strong familiarity with and connection to MSAs and broader California campuses
- Experience doing grassroots and youth organizing
- Experience doing legislative and administrative advocacy
- Ability to work collaboratively with multi-ethnic and multi-generational communities
- Budget and operations development and management experience
- Experience in navigating institutions of higher education and / or government
- Graduate degree in a related field
Compensation and Benefits
MSA West values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay and believes in paying individuals competitively. The salary ranges from 130K - 160K, commensurate with experience.
The board is open to discussing compensation to ensure a mutually beneficial agreement.

- Remote, but requires living in California. Travel and meetings throughout California as needed.
