TITLE : COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT CLASSROOM TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate, with special education endorsement in Cognitive Impairments
- Must have (or secure within the first school year) CPI certification
- Meet the requirements as specified in the most recent Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education
REPORTS TO : Director of Special Education and / or Building Administrator
SUPERVISES : Not Applicable
JOB GOAL : To provide special education students with a program that will enable them to
reach their fullest physical, emotional, cognitive and behavioral potential.
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Develop, implement and monitor individualized instruction to meet the unique needs of each student
- Utilize evidence based practices to facilitate student success
- Accommodate the general education curriculum for special needs students, based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies
- Work collaboratively with other staff members on Functional Behavior Assessments and Positive Behavior Support Plans
- Manage a safe, comfortable learning environment
- Comply with state and federal special education regulations
- Prepare for, participate and provide leadership in the IEP Process
- Provide direction and support to classroom paraprofessional, as needed
- Maintain effective communication and relationships with students, parents, administrators, paraprofessional, school personnel and community representatives
- Maintain accurate and complete student records
- Coordinate and conduct effective parent conferences
- Demonstrate professional conduct and exhibit professional growth
- Implement the Districts emergency use of seclusion and restraint if a students behavior poses an imminent risk to the safety of that student or others
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities the Director of Special Education may assign
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Ten month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education
EVALUATION : The Director of Special Education and / or a designee will evaluate Performance of this job annually.
