Position Summary
The Office of Research is looking for a motivated Accountant 2 to join our dynamic team. This position will serve as the main accountant to provide accounting support for the various research centers under the Office of Research.
This position will be responsible for multifaceted accounting functions, including fiscal, budgetary, and contract / grant management.
In addition to financial oversite and account reconciliation for the centers, the selected candidate will be responsible for budget projections and for analyzing and interpreting the financial status and explaining the financial status to the Center Director and to group oversite committees.
This position will be a term appointment, with continued funded expected. This person must be reliable and able to work independently.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1.Analyzes and reviews budgets and expenditures for local, state, federal, and private funding, contracts, and grants ensuring compliance with fiscal accountability and reporting and funding requirements.
2.Monitors and reviews accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness; prepares and reviews budget, revenue, expense, and payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting transactions.
3.Analyzes revenue and expenditure trends, recommends appropriate budget levels, and ensures expenditure control.
4.Advises and interprets policies to faculty, staff, and outside persons such as vendors, funding source representatives, and patients;
explains billings and reports, and resolves related problems.
5.Develops accounting applications; oversees the input and handling of financial data and reports for the institution's finance and human resources systems.
6.May participate in auditing projects, as appropriate to individual operating needs.
7.May coordinate the preparation of regularly scheduled and special billings and financial statements for local, state, federal, and private funding sources.
8.May prepare accounting entries for proration of indirect costs, letters of credit, salary reallocations, loan transactions, financial aid disbursements, refunds, and repayments.
9.May develop, negotiate, and defend a unit's operating budget and consult with management of the unit on the fiscal aspects of program planning, salary recommendations, and other administrative actions.
10.May supervise and / or lead lower graded staff and / or student employees.
11.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 06 / 30 / 2025; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING.
Conditions of Employment Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting;
at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience and knowledge in the following areas is also preferred and must be reflected in the cover letter and resume :
- Self-motivated and reliable
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Account reconciliations
- Managing budgets related to grants / contracts / clinical trials
- Experience in Banner or similar financial reporting system
- Experience with preparing budgets
- Knowledge of federal, state, and university, procedures / policies involving accounting, procurement and travel
