In accordance with SC Regulation 43-220, teachers of gifted and talented students must have either the South Carolina Gifted and Talented Endorsement or a Master’s Degree in Gifted Education in addition to certification at the level where they are teaching.
Possess a SC Teaching Certificate in a specific content area (secondary)* or Hold a SC Teaching Certificate for the level at which they teach
Gifted and Talented students (elementary) and
Have earned the South Carolina Gifted and Talented Endorsement or Master’s Degree in Gifted Education
Reports To :
GT teachers are responsible to school principals and the Coordinator of Gifted and Talented Programs for implementing the policies of the Greenville County School Board and SC Regulations as they relate to immediate contact with students and parents, the school, classroom, and community.
Responsibilities :
Job Goals and Responsibilities :
- To implement the District’s curriculum for gifted and talented students;
- To assist in identification of gifted and talented students by administering tests or gathering test data;
- To work closely with the Coordinator of Gifted and Talented Programs to ensure that state and local requirements and regulations are met;
- To adhere to District School Board Policies;
- To adhere to SC Regulation 43-220;
- To assist students in reaching their academic potential;
- To accept job assignments in multiple schools and as scheduled within schools;
- To attend relevant professional development activities.
Gifted and Talented teachers will be expected to :
- Have knowledge and understanding of gifted students.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and staff members.
- Make presentations to school faculties and parents about giftedness.
- Assist classroom teachers with special needs of gifted students.
- Be organized and flexible regarding placement and job requirements.
- Perform other duties assigned by school and District administrators.

In GCS, Middle School GT teachers must be certified in Secondary English because we serve students in GT English and Honors I English.
High School Honors teachers must be certified in the content area in which they teach.
