Deputy Corporate Bureau Chief and Management Editor

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an editor to play an essential role in shaping its award-winning business coverage.

The Deputy Corporate Bureau Chief will help lead a talented team of reporters covering management issues, entrepreneurs and business leaders as well as some of the biggest U.

S. industries, including retail, consumer brands, manufacturing, telecoms and transport.

You will be responsible for handling breaking news, shaping our beat coverage, driving investigations and delivering distinctive enterprise stories.

To succeed in this role, you will need to exercise sharp news judgment, juggle assignments and inspire your colleagues.

The editor will work hand-in-hand with the bureau chief and another editor to set the tone for our biggest stories of the year and find the best ways to deploy our staff to uncover and tell the best business stories.

To succeed, you will need to be both collaborative and creative.

You will be expected to carry on the Journal’s tradition of excellence and to think creatively and innovatively about how we cover stories for a digital audience.

Experience in tackling complex projects in business and finance is a must.

The position will be based in New York and report to the NY Corporate Bureau Chief.

You will :

Support, guide, and inspire your reporters to deliver scoops and enterprise stories that readers can’t find anywhere else

Work with colleagues to identify themes and seize storylines to shape our coverage of some of the biggest companies and business leaders

Think creatively about how to tackle reporting challenges and engage audiences

Work collaboratively on all aspects of a story from conception, to the visuals and headlines to produce world-class business journalism

Experiment with a wide array of reporting formats, from visuals to podcasts and video

Edit stories quickly, effectively and clearly, ensuring that they are compelling and adhere to WSJ standards.

You have :

Experience with sourcing and the ability to help reporters cultivate the networks they need to be effective.

Keen news judgment and ability to handle complex and sensitive coverage.

Elite-level communication and organization skills and excellent writing ability.

The combination of ambition and empathy that will inspire reporters to get the best out of themselves while managing the pressures of high-profile beats.

A collegial approach to coordinating coverage and facilitating mutual help among reporters and editors.

The very highest standards of excellence, and a commitment to ambitious and distinctive journalism and a willingness to experiment

Pay Range : $150,000 - $170,000
