Lafayette College Department of Athletics is seeking a dedicated and qualified Sports Psychologist to provide psychological support and performance enhancement services to student-athletes.
This part-time position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic and rewarding environment, helping student-athletes develop mental resilience, improve performance, and achieve their personal and athletic goals.
Primary Responsibilities :
Individual Counseling :
Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to student-athletes dealing with performance pressure, and personal challenges.
Develop individualized mental skills training plans tailored to each athletes needs.
Group Workshops :
Conduct workshops on topics such as mental toughness, goal setting, visualization techniques, and coping strategies.
Facilitate team-building exercises that promote psychological well-being and team cohesion.
Collaboration :
Work closely with coaches, athletic trainers, and other support staff to ensure a holistic approach to athlete development.
Attend team meetings and events as necessary to provide insights and support.
Assessment and Evaluation :
Utilize psychological assessments to evaluate athletes mental skills and areas for improvement.
Monitor and track progress over time, adjusting strategies as needed.
Education and Advocacy :
Educate student-athletes about the importance of mental health and performance psychology.
Advocate for mental health resources and promote a culture of wellness within the athletic program.
Research and Development :
Stay updated on the latest research in sports psychology and implement best practices.
Contribute to the development of programs and resources that enhance athlete mental health and performance.
Minimum Qualifications :
Masters or Doctoral degree in Sports Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or related field. Relevant licensure or certification in sports psychology or a related area.
Experience working with student-athletes or in a sports setting preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate empathy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to cultivate professional relationships with students-athletes and staff and be passionate about the student-athlete experience.
Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Excellent verbal / written communication skills.
Computer / Technological skills, able to work with a diverse group of people with various backgrounds, education levels, and cultural differences.
Must be able to work nights and weekends.
Compensation & Application :
Part-time hours, flexible schedule based on availability and demand. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
