SUMMARY

This management position reports directly to the Vice President ( VP ) of Finance. This is a professional accounting position dealing with work of a complex and confidential nature, including responsibility for the ADAPT Community Network ( ADAPT ) and Affiliates’ general accounting and reporting functions.

Is responsible for ensuring proper accounting and control of the Organization’s and Affiliates’ financial operations and assets, producing accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting, and maintaining records that conform to GAAP, state, regulatory agencies, and accreditation standards.

The controller must exercise independent judgment within established policies and objectives that influence operations. This position supervises the following functional areas and staff : Accounts Payable, General Accounting, Billing, and Accounts Receivables.

The Assistant Controller, Billing Director, and Accounts Payable Director are direct reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Controller will include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Maintains financial records, oversees preparation and recording of all accounting entries, and prepares monthly financial statements.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, orients, trains, evaluates, supervises, disciplines, and, when necessary, terminates subordinate staff.
  • Forecasts short- and long-range cash requirements.
  • Works as an integral part of management and assists in establishing, coordinating, and administering an adequate plan for control of fiscal operation.

Maintains direct contact with Organization funding sources.

  • Oversees all financial and cost reporting.
  • Oversees and works closely with outside public accounting firms related to the ADAPT and Affiliates’ financial, employee benefit plan audits, 990, and other tax return filings.
  • Assigns necessary resources and equipment to complete assigned functions and responsibly directs same.
  • Analyzes and interprets results of operations to the VP of Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
  • Provides oversight and assistance with preparing reports to all government agencies.
  • Proposes financial and accounting policy and procedures and interprets policy and procedures for program personnel.
  • Performs monthly comparative and analytical reviews of the general ledger to ensure financial data accuracy and timely month-end closing.
  • Prepares operating data and special reports as required.
  • Maintains thorough and complete knowledge of regulatory, financial, and tax reporting requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in the field and is expected to maintain a thorough and complete knowledge of regulatory and financial reporting requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong computer skills, including solid knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with executives, coworkers, employees, auditors, and outside contacts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with Accounting and Payroll Systems

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • At least five years of comparable Controller experience in a large organization with supervisory experience.

LICENSE / CERTIFICATION

CPA required

COMPENSATION : $170,000 - $185,000 + Industry Leading Benefits
