The Role ofLead Doctor

Along with theDirector of Player Health the Lead Doctor will have overallresponsibility and accountability for medical provision at theClub.

MainAccountabilities

  • Toensure that any concerns you observe or are raised with you in yourrole are shared with the Safeguarding Team through appropriatechannels
  • To work inconjunction with the Safeguarding Team to promote safe workingpractice within your department and those youmanage
  • Support the delivery of clinicalexcellence as a doctor within the Medical Department to meet thestandard required within the English Premier League for theclub
  • Have primary responsibility for thediagnostic evaluation of all first teamplayers
  • Help to develop a proactive model ofcare which focuses on prevention as well asrehabilitation
  • Help lead innovation and newways of medical team thinking and practice with the Director ofPlayer Health
  • Be responsible for the creationof a Medical Playbook for Brentford FC and act as the clinicalreference point for all doctors in theclub
  • Support more junior members of staffwithin the Club in their sports medical practice as well as providesupervision for other practitioners undergoing ultrasound trainingor similar
  • Maintain a record and up to date CPDportfolio as stipulated by FA and other professionalbodies.

WeeklyProvision

Ensure theappropriate level of 7day doctor provision is arranged anddelivered as the club schedule requires across both the1

Team and in conjunction with the LeadAcademy Doctor throughout the Academy age groups. This may extendto the Brentford Womens Team over time

  • Beavailable 56 days per week as the club schedule demands. This mayinclude training ground match day cover and / or other medicalservices at the Club
  • Deliver ultrasound andguided therapeutic injection services and demonstrate a solidunderstanding of imaging and radiology protocols and theirinterpretation for clinical diagnosis
  • Supportthe Director of Player Health in delivering presigning medicalassessments for both squads to ensure that all assessments aremanaged inhouse
  • Coordinate regular / mandatorymedical screening / interventions including but not limited tocardiology blood markers flu vaccines and cognitive functiontesting procedures
  • Lead weeklyMultidisciplinary Team case review meetings
  • Conduct home visits to ill or injured playersand telephone consultations as required
  • Attendor ensure attendance of consultant appointments by Club Doctors asrequired
  • Keep accurate up to date andconfidential medical records supported by contemporaneous medicalnotes relating to player injuries treatment andrehabilitation
  • Be responsible for any onwardspecialist referrals ensuring that relevant parties are informedarranging consultations / medical investigations asneeded
  • Maintain good relationships withclinic / hospital departments and fellow medical colleagues to ensureoptimum care of all players
  • Periodically attendmeetings with the Clubs insurers and any other third parties asrequested by the club
  • Review and updateEmergency Action Plans (EAP) at both training and match facilitieson an ongoing basis
  • Manage storage and stock ofprescription and nonprescription medications
  • Assist in delivery of any departmentalinservice programme.
  • Lead the regular practiceof onfield trauma scenarios for all other medicalstaff
  • In conjunction with the Director ofPlayer Health ensure that all FA antidoping and playerlocations / whereabouts requirements are complied with.

This includesthat all players are kept informed of any adaptions to regulationsimmediately as they occur

Supported by theDirector of Player Health ensure that the Clubs legal (and EnglishPremier League / Football Association) responsibilities with regardsto specific staffing and medicolegal requirements areupheld

MatchdayCover

In conjunctionwith the Club Doctors ensure appropriate emergency medical cover isin place for all home and away 1

Team BTeam and Academy games as required and as agreed with Director ofPlayer Health

Attend at least 90% of EPL Cupand 1

Team friendly games (home and away)as Team Doctor

Travel to away games as needed(any away game covered will require travel with the squad)including overnight stays prior to games and on1

Team trips andtours.

Manage onsite paramedic / trauma team andpractices including checking and maintenance of all medicalequipment to comply with EPLregulations

  • FullGMC registration
  • Diploma or MSc or equivalentinternational qualification in SportsMedicine
  • Injection therapy training anddiagnostic ultrasound training
  • Level 5 ATMMiFor equivalent emergency trauma qualification
  • Amember of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine(MFSEM)
  • Hold (or be able to obtain) sufficientProfessional Liability Insurance (SEMPRIS) appropriate for workingwith elite football players
  • A minimum of 10years post qualification experience in the field of Sports Medicinein an elite professional sports environment
  • Atleast 5 years extensive 1

Team Doctorexperience working as part of an interdisciplinary Sports Medicineteam at a professional football club (ideally in the PremierLeague)

  • Understanding of epidemiology offootball injuries and reinjuries
  • Able toproficiently communicate in English (written andoral).
