Requirements :
- Required : Associate of Science degree or experience, education or other parameters that meet CLIA Federal Register requirement.
- Preferred : Bachelor of Science degree; qualified as MT / MLS through a recognized certification agency such as ASCP or AMT with experience and examination.
- Preferred : 1 year experience in clinical laboratory environment
- Ability to read, communicate, and document effectively through oral, written, or electronic means. Excellent skills in customer relations.
- Demonstrates the constant ability to prioritize and respond promptly to a changing workload. Ability to respond to multiple situations and questions that require sound judgments and action for quality patient care.
- Preferred : American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
Certification with ASCP (or equivalent) is preferred.
Must have hospital experience, familiarity with Cerner LIS is a plus.
About the Job :
- Full time night shift position at Northwest Medical Center. Generalist position will rotate through blood bank, chemistry and hematology.
- Performs moderate and high complexity tests in the clinical laboratory.
- Ensures that specimens are appropriate for test methodologies.
- Documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
- Assist customers with information regarding laboratory testing in a pleasant and professional manner.
- Performs moderate and high complexity tests in the hospital clinical laboratory, both automated and manual. Ensures that specimens are appropriate for test methodologies.
- Documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed per departmental policy.
- Ensures that all tests are performed within turnaround time limits with review of pending logs and stat boards to maintain compliance.
- Performs and documents all corrective action taken when systems deviate from laboratory established performance criteria.
- Consistently uses critical thinking and problem solving skills to identify and correct issues that may adversely affect test performance or patient results.
- Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of laboratory medicine is expected.
