Administrative Faculty Contract. Non Tenure Track, Benefits Eligible.

This is an administrative position, reporting to the Director of Apprenticeship, Military and Prison Education (AMPED) programs, with responsibility for supporting access and success of apprenticeship students, veteran and military-connected students, and students enrolled in the Higher Education in Prison Program (HEPP).

This position will develop, guide, implement, oversee and / or contribute to a variety of activities and initiatives, serving in a leadership role for those enrolled and associated with the AMPED programs.

  • Utilizing research-based best practices to promote academic integration and success for AMPED students, responsibilities include management of the Veterans Resource Center (VRC);
  • serving as the primary point of contact and facilitator for veteran and military-connected students and agencies; collaborating with stakeholders to create connections to appropriate resources and opportunities;

and performing supervisory and administrative tasks

associated with each of the associated programs.

The position is based on WNC’s Carson campus but will regularly travel to WNC’s satellite campuses and communities in the service area.

Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Student Support

Serve as the first and main point of contact for all veteran and military-connected students

Assist students to navigate college processes and overcome challenges and / or barriers

Utilize research-based best practices to support academic integration and success

Meet with all individuals seeking information about Veteran Education Benefits and other college-related questions, consulting with other campus departments when needed (ie.

Financial Assistance Office, Advising, Admissions & Records, Controller’s Office).

Monitor semester-by-semester academic progress of all veteran and military-connected students, providing direct intervention as needed.

Proactively develop and implement success plans, in collaboration with other relevant departments (ie. advising, disability support services) when appropriate

Serve as the Chair of the ad hoc committee responsible for reviewing and approving or denying the appeals of students who are on Academic Probation and at risk of losing VA education benefits.

Plan and execute programs to increase veteran / military-connected student engagement and success.

Collaborate, coordinate and partner with external agencies regarding programs, services and resources to support the veteran / military-connected student population.

Serve as faculty / staff resource to answer questions about veteran or military-connected students; provide periodic presentations or training to help foster an awareness and understanding of success strategies, challenges, benefits and other requested / relevant information related to veteran / military-connected students

Maintain an active connection to the Student Veterans of America and ensure the continuity of the Wildcat Veterans Club from year to year.

This includes recruiting a club advisor, when needed; promoting participation among veteran / military-connected students;

supporting events, activities and fundraising activities, etc.

Veterans Resource Center

Develop and implement an annual strategy to ensure strong utilization of the VRC

Develop, implement, maintain and enforce processes, procedures and guidelines for use of the VRC

Manage the daily operations of the VRC, ensuring the center is open as advertised and appropriately staffed

Develop and implement programs, initiatives and activities that reflect and promote the core tenets of military service such as camaraderie, respect and a sense of belonging

Foster a positive, supportive, and engaging environment that celebrates and respects diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging of all students

Recruit, hire, train, develop, evaluate, and provide day-to-day direction / accountability for VRC staff

Manage all aspects of the VA Work-Study Allowance Program

Outreach and Recruitment

Participate in community outreach, when applicable, for recruitment and community awareness purposes. This may include, but is not limited to, events held on or in collaboration with military installations, Department of Veterans Affairs (facilities), local veteran support organizations, and other Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) institutions

Plan and execute activities and initiatives to increase student awareness of services and the Veterans Resource Center

Administrative Duties

Serve as a point of contact for the Department of Defense MOU, as well as local and national agencies / partners serving veterans / military-connected individuals

Collaborate with WNC’s Certifying Official on the approval of each new Academic Catalog

Represent WNC at the NSHE Vet Coordinator meetings, as well as approved conferences (such as Western Association of Veterans Education Specialists) and events

Complete reports as necessary, including the annual NSHE Veterans Report

In collaboration with the Director, develop and present the proposed annual VRC budget

Develop, implement, track and oversee the annual budgets and gift accounts for the Veterans Resource Center

Conduct purchasing, payment and accounting activities related to concurrent programs following established WNC / NSHE procedures

Develop and implement fundraisers for the VRC, as deemed necessary

Participate in program assessment and review as required to maintain VA Educational Benefits standards, meet DOD Memorandum of Understanding requirements and support college accreditation

Develop and implement an annual program assessment plan to include :

Evaluation of usage, effectiveness and satisfaction with the veterans / military-connected programs and services

Identification and tracking of consistent data points, year-over-year, to identify long-term trends

Preparation of an annual report summarizing outcomes

Collaborate with other units across the college to provide input on policies and procedures that impact veteran / military-connected students

Apprenticeships and HEPP Support

Respond to and track student inquiries via email, phone, or mail (for incarcerated students)

Assist with orientation and enrollment processes

Maintain HEPP Student Handbook with up-to-date college policies regarding the rights and responsibilities of students

As requested, provide assistance in preparing reports, managing budget processes, and conducting other program support activities

General Administrative Duties

Collaborate / coordinate with the Marketing team to promote services, share program highlights, disseminate events information, and raise awareness of activities and resources available for the AMPED programs

Maintain the websites related to each program, ensuring that current, updated content is maintained

Conduct assigned budget, payroll, purchasing and department operations, as assigned

Maintain office workflow and procedural documentation manuals for AMPED programs

Professional Responsibilities

Consistently model open communication, respectful interactions and collegiality with all stakeholders

Establish and maintain an appropriate network of professional contacts in other NSHE institutions and regional agencies

Serve on the committees and participate in college activities, as needed and approved by the Director

Maintain extensive knowledge of regulations and new developments related to programs and services for veterans and military-connected students.

Engage in a professional continuous improvement process (Plan-Do-Study / Analyze-Revise)

Serve as WNC’s peer mentor for the State’s Employee Peer Mentor Program for Veterans in Nevada

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree and two years of related professional experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree (i.

e., AA+3 or 4 yrs related professional experience)

Preferred Qualifications :

Lived experience as a veteran student using VA Educational Benefits or serving veterans / military-connected people is desirable

Experience working in a higher education setting is desirable

Experience with Workday is desirable

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Knowledge :

The rules and regulations of the Department of Veterans Affairs as it relates to Education Benefits, including the VA Work Study Program

The rules and regulations of active-duty education benefits such as Army IgnitED

Federal and State Laws regarding Veterans and Veterans Educational Benefits

Common barriers to success faced by AMPED students which includes veterans / military-connected, apprenticeship and justice-impacted / incarcerated students

Best practices for success in the academic setting for AMPED students

Basic processes related to budgeting, purchasing and reconciling accounts

College and NSHE system policies and practices that apply to serving AMPED students

WNC’s service area and demographics

Skills :

Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and Google applications (Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc.)

Minimum Starting Salary Information :

This position is at a salary grade B. The minimum of the placement range is $60,644.54. The selected candidate will be placed at or above the minimum based on education and experience.
