Requirements :
- Graduated from an approved respiratory therapy program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or its predecessor, the Joint Review Committee for Respiratory Therapy Education (JRCRTE)
- Registration or certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- A current and valid RCP license from the California Respiratory Care Board
- At least twelve (12) consecutive months of performing similar services within the last three (3) years to those defined herein
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (with AED)
Responsibilities : The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) will carry out duties under the guidance of the Institution CEO / CME or their assigned representative.
They will provide services within the permissible scope of practice for Respiratory Care Practitioners, following the policies and procedures of the Institution / Facility.
The Respiratory Care Practitioner must be capable of working under various conditions and fulfilling the following essential functions :
- Administer care in line with established evidence-based practices.
- Arrange equipment and offer instructions on its usage to each patient / youth as per the approved policy and procedure.
- Conduct comprehensive medical assessments of patients during scheduled clinic hours or upon request from the CEO / CME or designee for consultation, and provide appropriate treatment recommendations to the referring physician or CEO / CME or designee.
- Maintain daily charting, ensuring no chart remains delinquent for more than ten (10) days to avoid termination of employment as a Temporary / Relief Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- Contribute to the development and updating of respiratory therapy-related policies and procedures.
- Regularly assess equipment requirements and make relevant recommendations.
- Prior to attending the Institution's in-service training, the practitioner must submit the instructor's Curriculum Vitae (CV), course outline, course objectives, and post-tests at least one week in advance.
- As needed, the CEO / CME or designee may request the practitioner's participation in special assignments for respiratory care services, which may include quality improvement projects, utilization review, and other tasks.
