About the Opportunity

The N.U.in Program is one of Northeastern’s signature first-year experiences - an experiential and academic program that expands students’ Northeastern education into worldwide locations.

The Assistant Directoris the primary program contact for the site partner and facilitates contracts and other agreements, approvals, and program planning.

The Assistant Director ensures that program goals and design are implemented as intended, with special emphasis on learner engagement, student services, and programming.

The Assistant Director facilitates the successful delivery of the assigned portfolio of Northeastern signature cohort-based programs for first-year students, such as the N.

U.in Program, Global Engagement Program, and Global Quest, etc., and contributes, as needed, to the management of faculty-led programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Intermediate knowledge of program administration, evaluation, and development.
  • Intermediate knowledge of student life, international travel, the impact of crossing cultures on the student learning abroad, and immigration and student visa regulations around the world.
  • Understanding of NAFSA : Association of International Educators’ professional ethics and competencies.
  • Flexibility and demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and take actions that satisfy diverse interests.
  • Demonstrated history of supporting, advocating for, and / or leading DEI initiatives and values.
  • Demonstrated experience with team coordination and staff supervision.
  • Effective organizational, communication, time management, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and manage events for large groups.
  • Proven ability to work well under challenging conditions, demonstrate sound judgement, and take actions that satisfy diverse or competing interests while achieving programmatic goals.
  • Strong organizational, project management, administrative skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software and familiarity with Salesforce, Terra Dotta, and student record systems.
  • Ability to gather, organize, analyze, and present data.
  • Proven ability to approve and manage budgets for line-item expenditures.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain any required work authorization for the duration of the appointment and work location assignments.
  • Knowledge and skills are normally acquired through a minimum of two years of academic administrative experience and demonstrated experience facilitating relationships with multiple external partner institutions and related contracting and programming with preferred focus on international education and Master’s degree;

or Bachelor’s plus a minimum of three years of related experience as described.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Program Delivery and Development

Develop and implement programs promoting cross-cultural and social intellectual growth, awareness of diversity issues.

Actively contribute to the development of program learning goals and overarching themes.

Actively participate in student recruitment efforts (Welcome Days, Yield Events, Phone-a-thon, Fairs, etc.).

Program Operations

Administer program operational and administrative processes and procedures.

Facilitate financial operations including invoicing and budget monitoring.

Serve as a point of contact for logistical planning for GEO Program Development Team, the international partner colleagues, and the Northeastern community.

Establish processes to improve efficiency of program administration.

Collaborate as necessary to reach consensus when site specific needs conflict to ensure overall success.

Collaborate with GEO and EM Marketing teams on comprehensive and consistent communication flow to prospective and past students and parents of cohort first-year programs.

Contribute to developing, updating, and revising program information.

Contribute to strategizing innovative ways to promote programs to perspective students.

Assist Enrollment Management and GEO leadership to ensure success of recruitment and yield strategies.

Student Support and Engagement

Encourage student academic success and connect students to academic resources.

Assist with all aspects of student and parent customer service, enhancing the level of customer satisfaction.

Perform quality assurance measures to ensure customer service excellence.

Emergency Response

Participate in rotating Emergency Phone duties with other Boston-based GEO colleagues, while students are abroad.

Triage and respond to emergency issues outside of office hours; escalate issues as appropriate to management.

Manage any escalated student / parent problems or concerns before arrival, upon arrival, and regarding the transition to Northeastern University.

Relationship Building and Collaboration

Nurture deep and long-lasting relationships and productive collaborations with the division of Student Affairs.

Maintain strong relationships with partner institutions in the assigned portfolio to ensure smooth delivery of programs and coordinated response to any issues.

Collaboratively plan, execute, and market program events and services to community stakeholders.

Contribute to GEO effectiveness by keeping regional pods and inter-team strategy groups informed and up to date on the latest developments and needs in program management.

Partner with Program Development Team on annual revisions and enhancements of existing cohort programs, and on brainstorming new ones.

Develop and maintain open lines of communications vis-à-vis shared supervision of Program Liaisons.

Establish and maintain relationships with various departments on campus, such as housing, catering, scheduling, facilities, academic advisors, admissions, etc.

Partner with NU’s Orientation office and key campus colleague on coordinating content of orientations and transition events.

Leadership

Select, onboard, and continually develop employees in a way that creates an environment that inspires employees to do their best work.

Ensure staff transition to Boston and abroad is fully executed.

Design and deliver training to staff and students.
