Job Description
This occupation requires the assembling of fabricated and purchased parts into detail structural and mechanical assemblies at bench and floor positions where detailed production information and established tooling are provided.
Assembles parts into detail assemblies where all locating information is established by tooling. Presses in bushings or bearings, jig drills and rivets splines or clevises to shafts, torque tubes, or push-pull rods;
does straight reaming where tolerances are readily maintained; inserts spacers and joins by bolts, and screws such items as linkage and arms, torque tubes, bell cranks, levers, push-pull rods and pulley assemblies.
Trims, fits, and burrs detail parts such as stringers, minor spars, ribs, stiffeners, brackets and clips prior to assembly.
Installs such parts as plate nuts, gang nuts, brackets, fittings and gussets. Assembles and temporarily fastens detail parts together in predetermined sequence for subsequent joining operations such as spot welding, riveting, or bolting.
Cleans, lubricates, color codes and identifies parts as required. Performs sealing, cementing; application of protective coatings, packaging and wrapping for storage and shipping as required.
Performs such operations as trimming and drilling to established tooling; loading upsetting rivets; drilling or punching piloted holes;
countersinking and spot facing; milling of rivet heads; dimpling, back-drilling; attaching fitting where location has been established.
Pressure tests tubes and fittings for leaks when so assigned. Works from production, pre-release, check, detail, assembly and installation blueprints, photographs, development assist and master layout tooling, sketches, and other authorized documents.
