Job Description
The starting pay range for this position begins at $19.06 / hour and is based on the level of qualifications and relevant experience above the minimum requirements.
Full Time : a position working 35+ hours per week.
Engineering Technicians perform installation, maintenance and repairs to buildings, structures, and systems at assigned locations across the estate.
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to : upkeep and basic repairs for estate electrical systems; installation, maintenance, and testing for security systems;
- keeping safety and testing equipment, tools, and gear in good working order; general plumbing and minor HVAC repair and maintenance work;
and carpentry. Technicians are also a point of contact for system issues (disruptions, failures, etc.) and will be on call in the event of emergencies.
In addition, technicians will provide general assistance and support for the department and company.
Essential Job Duties :
1. Maintenance and repair work on electrical and security systems in and around assigned locations on the estate.
2. Coordinates plumbing, minor HVAC, and other system-related maintenance work.
3. Perform carpentry work as needed / assigned.
4. Works with other department staff to coordinate work / projects as well as assignments related to special events, functions, and activities.
5. Serves as technical resource / support for department; will liaise with external contractors, vendors, and other third party providers as assigned / required by leadership.
6. Ensures that safety protocols and quality controls are followed and that work is in full compliance with OSHA and departmental / company standards.
Schedule can vary, but is generally 6am-4 : 30pm, Tuesday-Friday
Qualifications :
1. High school diploma required. Additional education, training, and certification(s) strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have certification in electrical and / or other trade skill or system.
2. At least four (4) years of previous related technical or engineering experience required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and / or experience may be considered.
The preferred candidate will have had prior experience working with electrical or security systems, ideally in a guest service setting, and will have also worked on systems within historic structures in addition to residential and commercial buildings.
3. General knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and / or other building systems. Should be able to comfortably identify, address, and troubleshoot issues and make necessary repairs.
4. Must have or be able to obtain certification in Hirsch security system repair.
5. Demonstrated commitment to providing world class internal and external guest service.
6. Excellent planning, project and time management and organizational skills with a focus on detail and quality; should be able to effectively prioritize work under deadline and creatively problem solve.
7. Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and exercise good judgment as well as work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
8. Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills; should be able to communicate technical information clearly, concisely, and effectively to a variety of audiences, and interact with vendors, contractors and other guests in a professional manner.
9. Ability to take direction and understand and execute instructions successfully.
10. Ability to operate various equipment, tools, and machinery.
11. Should be comfortable with responding to guest questions and requests in a manner consistent with Biltmore standards.
12. Must be at least 18 years of age and have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements :
1. Must be able to lift / push / pull up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds on a regular basis with assistance.
2. Ability to stand / walk for extended periods of time.
3. Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and / or scaffolding.
4. Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat / kneel.
