SUMMARY

The Accountant-Financial & Audit Compliance, and Reports Management assists with the administration of the Districts financial operations including development and maintenance of annual budget and long range financial projections.

Assists in the planning and coordinating of the operations of the business office. Serves as a financial resource for administrators.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The Accountant reports to the Chief Financial Officer / Business Manager and may receive direction from the Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must have regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Maintains a complete and systematic set of computerized records of all financial transactions of the District including maintaining books for Governmental, Proprietary, and Fiduciary Funds.
  • Prepares school financial transactions from source records through preparation of cost reports and financial statements to accurately reflect the financial position of the District.
  • Executes all cash and check transactions and reconciles bank accounts.
  • Maintains control of cash flow and investments.
  • Responsible for all accounts receivable and payable and prepares detail for balance sheet accounts.
  • Responsible for Property Tax accounting and Revenues from all governmental sources.
  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected District financial position.
  • Monitors the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
  • Responsible for audit preparation and year end financial statements.
  • Collaborates with the CFO / Business Manager and / or the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, and other District / LISD coordinators in the management of state and federal grant programs.
  • Prepares governmental reports for state / federal programs
  • Responsible for budgeting and budget control functions.
  • Collaborates with the Accountant-Payroll & Benefits to accurately plan and manage payroll and benefits, budgeting, and costs of the District.
  • Follows all Board policies, state laws, and regulations.
  • Provides support to other positions as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE

3-5 years of accounting experience highly preferred

Must have school finance experience

Bachelors Degree in accounting preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as calculating percent changes, exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory of the public school accounting field. Ability to apply public school accounting procedures and laws related to school finance.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.

Ability to perform all duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.

Knowledge, skill, and competency in the use of 10-key numeric pad typing, general typing, e-mail, internet, presentation software, spreadsheets, and word processing.
