JOB SUMMARY
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 year of experience in the installation (or related field) and repair of electrical or electronic traffic control devices; or,
- A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
- Must obtain IMSA Level I Certification in signs and markings within 1 year of the date of hire (equivalent TEEX or UT Arlington course certifications will be considered) and Level 1 certification Traffic Signal Technician within 18 months of hire date.
- Must obtain a State of Texas Class B CDL Driver’s License within 2 years.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Accurately estimating labor and materials costs in order to establish and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated with good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Experience in prioritizing, planning, and scheduling, works independently in the absence of specific instructions or supervision.
- Promotes and enforces safe work practices.
- Must have the ability to perform tasks and supervise multiple projects under pressure, with short deadlines and the ability to work overtime and flexible hours as necessary.
- Skilled in the use of a variety of machines, including, but not limited to, radio, personal computers, laptops, telephone, calculators, facsimile machine, copiers and smartphones.
- Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with supervisors and other personnel as well as a willingness to perform duties in a team environment
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished by management in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must have the ability to comprehend policies, procedures, regulations, organizational structures, etc. verbally, written in a short timeframe.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform duties inside a bucket truck up to 80’ off the ground;
stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines, drive vehicles and / or equipment; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to (80) eighty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Knowledge and ability to follow Town policies and procedures. Adheres to personnel, safety, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Skill in planning and coordinating work site activities. Sets out work zone for job site in accordance with the TMUTCD and MUTCD.
Constructs and installs traffic barricades at appropriate locations.
- Performs skilled and complex electronical technical support work. Work involves installing, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing electronic systems and equipment such as flashing beacons, street light panels, computer operations and digital printing.
- Deploys traffic monitoring systems. Employees at this level establish their own work plan, develop recommendations based on findings, and prioritizes accordingly to meet set objectives.
- Knowledge of pertinent federal state and local laws and ordinances pertaining to roadway lighting and traffic signal operations.
- Knowledge of traffic control sign, pavement marking, and guardrail maintenance, repair, and construction methods and practices and TXDOT work zone safety requirement and procedures.
- Knowledge of the common principles, practices, equipment, materials and methods used in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
i.e. pouring concrete bases to Town Standards or better)
- Knowledge of electrical codes, electronic circuits and circuit logic.
- Knowledge of occupational safety and health rules, regulations, practices and procedures.
- Skill in basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to work with voltages that vary 12 / 24, 120 / 240, 240 / 480 & straight 480.
- Identifies and reports visibility obstructions that pose traffic hazards and performs maintenance such as trimming trees that obstruct traffic control signage and cleans work sites and restores landscaping to original condition upon completion of all projects
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete records. Completes daily reports on all field activities, dispatched calls, work orders, service request and provides information for cost analysis reports utilizing a computer work order system or other applicable software systems.
- Performs layout procedures for pavement markings such as thermoplastic, paint, buttons; including preparation work such as grinding and sealer application;
and applies them to roadways using epoxy, approved adhesives, or applicable markings equipment.
- Maintains inventory and stock levels on trucks and in shop per the supervisor’s direction and restocks as necessary.
- Performs vehicle inspection and preventative maintenance of vehicle and equipment.
- Informs supervisor of potential hazards, problem areas, citizen inquires, and all work activities.
- Required to assist with all special events in the areas of traffic control.
- Candidate will be required to be on-call during certain periods including Winter Operation activities or any event requiring Essential Personnel such as street sanding or brining and respond to work orders and requests after hours and on weekends when on-call.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
