Position Overview :
We are seeking a Mechanical Facilities Engineer III to design HVAC and Plumbing / Piping systems for a variety of mission-critical and mission-support projects.
This role involves detailed planning, conducting, and coordinating phases of design work, developing specifications, and ensuring quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities :
- Design HVAC and Plumbing / Piping systems, including calculations, process flow diagrams, and layout of mechanical equipment and associated duct and piping systems.
- Develop mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions.
- Apply standard techniques and procedures for less complex projects, and adapt methods for more complex assignments.
- Perform engineering quality assurance checks of project designs.
- Support new project proposals with mechanical discipline scopes, budget estimates, and schedules.
- Interface with and present designs to Federal, State, and Local government clients.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team, coordinating tasks and work with engineers, designers, and administrative staff.
- Periodic travel to other Merrick offices or project sites, including international travel, may be required.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program (Engineering Technology degree not considered).
- Minimum of years of experience.
- PE License.
- Ability to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance.
- Experience in HVAC and plumbing / piping systems design and associated engineering calculations (, air-handling systems, laboratory fume hood exhaust air systems, duct systems, heating and chilled water hydronic piping systems, natural gas piping systems, domestic water and wastewater piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, compressed air systems, and mechanical system controls).
- Experience sizing and selecting HVAC and plumbing / piping equipment (, air-handling units, fans / blowers, pumps, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, coils, HEPA filtration systems, dampers, valves, and controls).
- Proficient in editing and writing mechanical construction and equipment specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience using HVAC computer load and design programs such as Trane Trace software; knowledge of Revit building information modeling software;
and familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA, and NFPA standards.
- Working knowledge of IMC, IPC, and IBC codes.
- Citizenship is required for client projects.
