The Special Recreation Division offers positive and healthy recreation programming focused on leisure, social, educational, and vocational opportunities within the community for individuals with special needs with a team of talented, dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced staff.
Programming also includes the largest south suburban community of Special Olympics in the state of Illinois with over 300 participants.
Our special recreation staff are committed to meeting the unique individual leisure time needs and positively impact the lives of individuals with special needs every day by focusing on community outreach and reintegration.
We are currently seeking applicants that love to work with individuals with special needs to join our Special Recreation programming as a part-time Recreation Instructor II / Bus Driver, to support our commitment of meeting unique individual leisure time needs.
Programming includes general weekly programs, inclusion programming, Special Olympic sports, special events, and overnight trips.
This position is responsible for safely transporting participants to and from program locations while driving a Village vehicle that requires a Class B or C Commercial Driver’s License with a passenger endorsement.
Key Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing an optimal experience in recreation for individuals with disabilities. The ideal candidate will assist and coach participants enrolled in special recreation programs, and adapt services to meet the needs of all individuals;
provide vocational, leisure, and social activities to individuals with special needs in a fun and safe therapeutic environment.
The Recreation Instruction II / Bus Driver will also utilize redirection techniques and behavior management skills when needed to ensure participant's safety and well-being, in addition this person will complete all necessary program, transportation, and division documentation.
The Recreation Instructor II / Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting participants and completing program and event pick-ups and drop-offs from current residences to Orland Park and other agency facilities.
Responsibilities also include traveling within the greater Chicago-land area, as well as overnight tournaments in the state of Illinois, and the possibility of out of state trips and assist with department wide special events and fundraisers.
