SALARY : $65,000-$70,000
OVERVIEW :
Cleveland Play House (CPH), recipient of the 2015 Regional Theatre Tony Award, seeks an experienced, self-motivated fundraising professional, with a keen focus on : overseeing institutional grantor moves management, supporting the Board of Directors, liaising with special events personnel, and devising / implementing department systems and processes.

Anchored by dedicated staff and board leadership, the Deputy Director - Development Operations will bring creativity, experience, and innovation to the fundraising activities of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
A member of the Development team and reporting to the Director of Development, the Deputy Director - Development Operations will be responsible for supporting the direction, operation, and execution of Cleveland Play House's fundraising initiatives, with a focus on maintaining and streamlining department systems as well as liaising with the Board, institutional grantors, and special events personnel.
They will be responsible for supporting both long and short term contributed income goals for CPH through foundation, government, and corporate grant-seeking.
The Deputy Director - Development Operations will be an enthusiastic spokesperson for CPH's mission, vision, and values for both internal and external constituents.
They will work closely with the Director of Development to expand and deepen existing grantor relationships while implementing creative approaches to expand the pool of Cleveland Play House's supporters, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, the Managing and Artistic Directors, and CPH staff.
They will be instrumental in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of institutional grantors and prospects, with the support of a contracted Grants Writer.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- ORG / DEPT
- Participate in organization-wide anti-racism work and incorporate an anti-racist lens into daily practice.
- Support Executive Leadership as relates to fundraising by proactively helping to schedule funder interactions, preparing briefing notes in advance, and following up afterward to collect / record / implement notes and next steps
- Collaborate with the Director of Education on the strategy, systems, and processes for education-related grants and reports.
- As requested, provide regular reports to the Director of Development, Managing Director, and Board of Trustees on year-to-date fundraising progress and cash flow projections.
- INSTITUTIONAL GRANTS
- Manage a portfolio of grantors (foundation, government, and corporate) and prospects.
- Conduct moves management for said portfolio (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship).
- Serve as a thought partner with the Director of Development, particularly as it relates to grant-seeking strategy and implementation.
- Supervise the Grants Writer and oversee their primary duties (drafting, submitting, and tracking grant proposals, reports, supplemental materials, and program data) as well as an indirect report for the Development Associate who supports with grant processing, documentation, and acknowledgement letters.
- Provide strategic input on grantor identification, solicitation, and reporting activities.
- Maintain detailed records of interactions with funders and prospects.
- Develop proposals and structure agreements for grantors as needed, in collaboration with other Development team members.
- BOARD
- Alongside the Managing Director, prepare for all Board and Executive Committee meetings (including the annual Board retreat) with support from the Development Associate.
- Manage the onboarding process for new Board members and maintain the Google Drive portal comprising materials for Board members.
- Oversee biannual Board "report card" creation and dissemination, with support from the Development Associate.
- Actively participate in Board Development Committee meetings.
- Take minutes at Board and Executive Committee meetings and, as needed, at Governance Committee meetings.
- EVENTS
- Liaise with personnel working on the annual Gala - such as the contracted Event Designer as well as the Event Logistics Manager - and internal personnel across the Production teams and other departments.
- Support the planning for key donor cultivation and solicitation events (such as Tech Nights, Opening Night dinners, and other special events), in collaboration with the Development Associate who manages event logistics.
- Provide strategic direction and logistical support for events, ensuring donor engagement and sponsorship fulfillment.
- FINANCIAL & CRM
- Work closely with the Education Compliance Officer and Grants & Contracts Accountant; communicate funder requirements and stay on top of program data and financials needed for funders.
- Provide oversight for the tracking, reporting, projecting, and reconciling for grants.
- Maintain and streamline department projections and actuals for income, cash flow, and expenses, with support from the Development Associate.
- Actively and strategically utilize CRM AudienceView for documentation, analysis, and moves management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor's degree or three years progressively responsible experience as a development professional.
- Successful track record in institutional fundraising, campaign management, and stakeholder communications. Knowledgeable about event planning.
- Must possess a broad institutional perspective, collaborative mindset, and excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated record managing complex issues and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to thrive in a deadline-oriented workplace and an evolving customer service-oriented environment.
- Positive attitude with excellent grace-under-pressure.
- Ability to think ahead and anticipate the needs of supervisor.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently; to create / modify / implement systems and processes.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) platforms. (CPH uses AudienceView.)
- Understanding of anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practices, and the ability to interact effectively with people of different races, cultures, abilities, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Ability to work nights and weekends for select fundraising events, such as opening nights, tech nights, and the annual gala.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
In-depth experience in campaign management and fundraising is preferred. Five years of experience in theater development / fundraising and versed in the performing arts and arts education is preferred.
The salary is based on qualifications and experience with a range of $65,000-70,000. Benefits package includes : group health insurance to which CPH contributes a portion of the employee's premium, group dental and vision plans.
