The Opportunity

Four Peaks has an opening for a senior scientist to support its growing water resources practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental sciences or environmental engineering, 7 or more years of experience in environmental consulting, able to manage and deliver multiple projects, mentor and supervise technical staff and teams, oversee technical analyses in water quality, and have the ability to generate new business.

The position will provide ample opportunities to work on important environmental challenges facing our clients and rapidly grow into a leadership role within the firm.

We are looking for a candidate based in a city with a Four Peaks office (Chicago, Seattle, Hood River, or Wenatchee).

Summary of Duties

  • Lead water resources management, water quality modeling, and environmental data analyses projects nationwide
  • Lead development of written and analytical deliverables for multiple, concurrent projects
  • Provide regulatory and environmental compliance strategy to clients on Clean Water Act, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) licensing / relicensing, or CERCLA
  • Participate and lead regulatory meetings on behalf of clients to identify and develop compliance and regulatory solutions
  • Mentor technical staff on environmental modeling, interpretations of environmental data, and related technical analyses
  • Contribute to marketing and business development efforts and generate revenue independently
  • Travel to Four Peaks office and client sites to manage teams, clients, and projects as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in environmental engineering, environmental science, or related field with strong academic background in aquatic chemistry, limnology, environmental fluid mechanics, or water quality modeling
  • 7+ years of experience in a consulting environment
  • Experience managing and delivering water quality and water resources projects
  • Experience with water quality standards and environmental requirements associated with hydropower projects, specifically in working on Clean Water Act Section 401 Water Quality Certification compliance
  • Experience mentoring project teams and junior staff in developing and applying hydrodynamic, sediment, contaminant fate and transport or water quality models for water, sediment management, or environmental compliance projects
  • Proficiency writing technical reports and other scientific documents
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • High-level of motivation and willingness to take on a wide range of tasks

Desired Experience

  • Professional engineer or other relevant certifications
  • Ph.D. in environmental engineering, environmental science, or related discipline
  • Experience in CERCLA / Superfund projects
  • Demonstrable record of generating new business in the seller-doer consulting business model
  • Demonstrable record of developing and applying one or more surface water modeling tools such as CE-QUAL-W2, EFDC, DELFT3D FM (DFM) for various environmental projects
  • Experience in working on Clean Water Act compliance for hydropower projects in the Pacific Northwest
