Parks Maintenance Tech I - This is entry-level technical work responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and construction of County parks, parks facilities, trails and open space within the Parks, Trails & Building Grounds.
Generally, the hiring range is $39,520-$49,330. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.
Parks Maintenance Tech II - This is skilled, technical work responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and construction of County parks, parks facilities, trails and open space within the Parks, Trails & Building Grounds.
Generally, the hiring range is $44,747-$55,934. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
- Inspects park grounds, trails, open space, and facilities to determine need or extent of repairs.
- Prepares and maintains records of completed work.
- May direct the activities of Seasonal Parks Technicians, community service workers, and volunteers performing maintenance and repair work including mowing grass, landscaping grounds, correcting drainage problems, removing trash, and maintaining park roads and parking lots.
- Operates equipment including pickups, single axle and tandem axel trucks, all types of tractor-trailers, rollers, mowers, sweepers, loaders, backhoes, snowplows, sanders, trenchers, chippers, and concrete cutters.
- Irrigation preventive maintenance, repairs, installation and controller programming during the irrigation season.
- Performs maintenance, repairs, and construction of parks, parks facilities, and trails including; replacing plant material and playground equipment, resurfacing trails, trimming trees and shrubs, and erecting and repairing fences.
- Performs snow removal and application of anti-icing and de-icing products for County buildings, parks, and trails.
- Checks equipment and tools to assure safe and proper usage.
- Responds to inquiries from park users and the public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Parks Maintenance Tech II :
- Repair, maintenance and construction in parks, trails and building grounds including, turf maintenance, fence construction and maintenance, chemical application and noxious weed control, grading parking lots and trails surfaces, removal of trash, restroom cleaning and facility maintenance, over seeding, top dressing, landscaping, erosion control, maintenance of infrastructure, and playground inspections and repairs.
- May direct the work of lower-level Park Maintenance Technicians Seasonal Parks Technicians, and volunteers performing maintenance and repairs including mowing grass, landscaping grounds, correcting drainage problems, removing trash, and maintaining park roads and parking lots as needed.
- Instruction of new employees and seasonal staff on standard of work and safety procedures.
- Process relevant paperwork daily.
- May direct tasks of lower-level technicians.
- On call duty for special events and snow removal.
- Ability to perform strenuous labor for up to 8 hours a day and beyond during snow season.
- Attend and contribute to various meetings.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Performs work under general supervision.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : Does not have direct supervisor duties. This position may direct the work of other Parks Maintenance Technicians and Seasonal Parks Technicians as needed.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT : Ability to use experience and knowledge to make appropriate decisions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :
Parks Maintenance Tech I :
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Six months of related experience.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Parks Maintenance Tech II :
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Two years of related experience.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge :
- Customer services to internal and external customers
- Communication : reading, writing, speaking
- Some knowledge of safety factors is required.
Skills :
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Operation of equipment and systems, including vehicles
- Skill in the use of facility / park / equipment maintenance. (Parks Maintenance Tech II)
- Skill in the use of tools and equipment involved in maintenance and construction.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS :
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
- Ability to obtain Commercial Class Driver's License (CDL-A) within one year of hire.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Physical Work Environment : Work is generally performed outdoors in various weather conditions. This position requires the incumbent to remain available via mobile cellular device / email access during and after normally scheduled business hours.
Physical Demands :
- Mows with self-propelled 135lb or 175lb power mower or cut weeds with 15lb power weed trimmer.
- Occasionally shovels dirt and gravel and digs holes for posts using a post hole digger and or 19lb digging bar.
- Regularly lift and carry up to 50lb materials. Occasionally move and carry up to 80lb materials.
- Ability to lift and position with assistance ramps to allow tractor loading and unloading from trailer.
- Ability to pick up and remove trash.
- Must lift 50 lb. ice melt, seed, fertilizer, concrete and trash bag from ground level to truck bed height.
- Occasionally operate 2-3lb hand pruners held overhead. Occasionally operate 15lb chain saw with two hands.
- Requires fine motor dexterity to adjust and maintain power equipment.
- Frequently must walk over uneven rough terrain either pushing, pulling, or carrying equipment.
- Requires agility to maneuver rough terrain.
- Requires ability to sit and drive tractor.
- Ability kneel on angled surfaces to plant flowers and do other work on the ground.
- Ability to perform strenuous labor for up to 8 hours a day.
