About the role : The Heat Treat Metallurgist / Quality Manager is responsible for supporting the Heat Treatment (Quench & Temper) Operations for fasteners manufactured out of low and mid-grade carbon and alloy steels.
Responsibilities : Customer Concern Management
Internal Quality Concern / DMR process management
Continuous Improvement
Material containment (material disposition, root cause analysis, CAPA)
Manage Root Cause, Corrective Action Processes (5Y / 8D / DDW / A3, etc.)
Develop and Maintain SOPs for applicability and implement and conduct
Process Control Plans, PFMEA's and RPN Reduction Plans
Manage and support :
QOS and continuous improvement process for key quality metrics
Concerns and DMRs, Reprocessing percentages,
Cost of poor quality, Audit compliance, etc.
PPAP submission process
APQP process / mfg. feasibility evaluation regarding new parts
Additional duties as assigned

Additional skills and / or experience required for success in the role :
Bachelor's degree in Material Science / Metallurgy or a related field
5+ years of experience in similar role / field
5+ years with steel processing, annealing, and heat treatment processes
5+ years in the manufacturing quality management field
Familiar with automotive OEM supplier requirements (IATF 16949 / AIAG / VDA)
AIAG CQI-9 Heat Treat Audit experience
ISO / 17025 or A2LA lab testing requirements and CTS testing protocol
ISO / TS 16949 audit experience
Experience with problem-solving, statistical, and analytical skills
Experience leading and managing employees
Experience with CAN-ENG CMBE Quench & Temper Furnaces & Wonderware
furnace control software
Experience with Cold Headed Fastener manufacturing
Experience interpreting steel microstructure (austenite, pearlite, martensite,
decarb-carbon pickup, etc.) metallurgy in mid / low carbon-based and alloy steels
Vickers / Knopp, microhardness as well as metallurgical mount prep & analysis
Experience in the automotive fastener industry
MSA / Metrology / Gage Control Experience
6-Sigma / Lean training (Green Belt / Black Belt)
Possess advanced computer skills
Able to communicate clearly and effectively
Additional skills and / or experience required for success in the role :
Able to pass a pre-employment, post-offer physical, drug screen
Able to pass a background check
