Groundskeeper Lead - Facilities Department
Reports To : Facilities Manager
POSITION :
Groundskeeper Lead, FP027, Full-time 100%, University Staff, 12-month Renewable / Ongoing, one vacancy
POSITION SUMMARY :
Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in landscaping, gardening, grounds keeping, and tree pruning activities to ensure completion of grounds work assignments.
May assist in planning and implementing landscaping projects.
DUTIES :
- Plans and directs the day-to-day operational activities of various lawn and landscape projects and staff.
- Schedules and monitors staff and assists with basic training.
- Assists with organizing the layout of planting sites, plant and material selection, research and evaluate new materials and equipment.
- Installs, propagates, and maintains the health of new and existing plants and landscape using a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Identifies and acts to remedy plant diseases and insect damage.
- Maintains clean and clear lawns, walkways, roadways, and parking lots to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES SPECIFIC TO POSITION :
- Schedule all necessary daily, monthly, and yearly grounds duties as established or become known.
- Organize daily / weekly duties of other grounds, limited term employees, and student workers.
- Work closely with Facilities Management leadership with budgeting and project scheduling.
- Provide supervisor with work schedules.
- Identify equipment needs and recommend disposal and replacement of older equipment.
- Operate a variety of power equipment and light vehicles.
- Operate power mowers and trimmers to mow lawns.
- Operate power equipment including end loaders, pickup trucks, power brooms, snowblowers etc. to remove snow from walks, parking lots, and driveways.
- Operate power equipment and light vehicles in spreading sand and salt on sidewalks and parking lots.
- Perform daily preventative maintenance and inspections on mowers, trucks, plows, tractors, and related equipment.
- Perform a variety of general labor and grounds keeping duties. To include :
- Plant and prune shrubs or trees.
- Perform clean up duties such as sweeping broken glass and other debris from lots, picking up papers, etc.
- Perform grounds work such as loading trucks, digging, and backfilling trenches and sodding.
- Install traffic and informational signs on campus.
- Clean grounds equipment areas.
- Move furniture and other miscellaneous equipment.
- Hand shovels snow where necessary.
- Install and repair chain link fencing.
- Construct forms and rough finish poured concrete.
- Maintain / stripe athletic fields.
- Maintain athletic turf fields
Other Duties :
- Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Basic computer skills (Word, Outlook, etc.)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE :
- Five years commercial grounds maintenance experience
- High School Diploma
- Current driver's license
- Physically able to lift 75 pounds
- Currently hold or ability to attend training and attain Wisconsin Pesticide and Fertilizer Applicator License
This position is currently ineligible for H1-B sponsorship. A qualification for this position includes independent eligibility to work within the United States upon hire date.
