Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission aligned Maintenance Worker to support our Facilities Department.
The Maintenance Worker will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone : break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
The Maintenance Worker will join our Facilities department that maintains a clean and professional work environment within the buildings throughout the agency with minimal supervision.
The ideal candidate will be able to perform routine maintenance / custodial checks and tasks to ensure that the assigned sites are being cleaned to the standard set by HCZ and other regulatory agencies (Health Department, Board of Ed).
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must have prior experience
- Must pass a fingerprint background check and Physical / TB test
Who you are
- Must be able to follow procedures for the safe use of cleaners and equipment, in order to prevent bodily harm and damage to the facility
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require you to lift, push, pull or carry heavy / large objects
What you’ll do
- Gather and empty trash.
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
- Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
- Vacuum, steam-clean and / or shampoo carpets.
- Sweep, mop, strip, seal, finish, and / or polish floors.
- Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage.
- Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
- Notify the immediate supervisor of all facility-related items at the assigned site.
- Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas as needed.
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings

The hourly rate for this position is $20-$22 per hour.
