Job Description
The Child & Family Intake Specialist provides screening and intake interviews to children and their families when a child experiences severe emotional disturbances (SED), is at risk of hospitalization or is vulnerable in other areas.
This professional collaborates with psychiatric and allied team members in treatment planning, intervention and crisis situations.
This clinician completes initial paperwork and coordinates case assignments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include, but may not be limited to the following :
1. Provides initial intake assessments as needed.
Completes comprehensive integrated bio-psychosocial assessments and related admission documents within the required timeframe.
Reports to work on time as scheduled and at the location assigned.
Demonstrates the ability to determine resource and service needs in a comprehensive manner.
Based on medical necessity, determines and completes appropriate case / program assignments.
Completes level of care assessments within required timeframes.
Collaborates with the ACCESS Center within the PIHP for member enrollment.
2. Provides individual / family-centered treatment planning according to client needs.
May assist or develop written individual service plans, reviews, and case termination summaries.
Practices Person-Centered Planning principles.
Service planning integrates assessments to provide meaningful individual goals and objectives.
Regularly reviews treatment plans and incorporates any necessary additional goals and objectives.
Progress notes are goal-related and reflects strengths and needs of the client and family.
The Clinician completes required documentation in a timely manner.
Treatment plans and related forms are reviewed with the family and required signatures are obtained.
Progress notes are completed after each contact.
Treatment plans and reviews are completed within established timeframes.
Completes all required trainings within the Agency established timeframes.
3. The intake specialist effectively conducts intakes and crisis intervention.
The clinician has knowledge of treatment approaches and has the ability to effectively apply interventions in therapy.
The clinician has knowledge of needed and available community resources.
The clinician has the ability to effectively triage clients.
The service recommendations are reflective of the client's identified problem areas.
4. The intake / crisis staff participates in clinical team meetings and coordinates team interventions.
The clinician is able to develop treatment goals and objectives, which are consistent with the child’s strengths and areas of needed growth.
The clinician consults with other team members when appropriate and integrates input as appropriate.
The clinician takes responsibility for assigned crisis coverage.
5. The clinician demonstrates professional and ethical behavior.
The clinician continues to demonstrate proficiency in his or her professional practice by attending regular case conferences, in-services, and workshops, and required trainings.
The clinician has no substantiated recipient rights violations.
6. Direct service time.
The clinician maintains 85 monthly hours of direct service time.
7. The clinician participates in committees and assumes other tasks as assigned.
8. Completes other duties as assigned in a reasonable established timeframe with quality expectations.

The C&F Intake Specialist comprehensively assesses client needs on multi-dimensional domains (behaviors, health, education, financial security, relationships, meaningful activities, quality of life, etc.
Based on client and family needs, the therapist applies interventions to decrease challenging behaviors and family discourse, improve communication and quality of life.
The C&F Intake Specialist will be able to identify what is under the surface and respectfully explore while maintaining unconditional positive regard.

QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
The requirements listed below are representative of the required knowledge, skill, and / or abilities.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE Required : Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology from an accredited college or university with two years of experience working with SED (serious emotional disturbance) children and youth
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to establish professional working relationships with all staff.
Appropriately articulates the view of the agency when networking in the community
CREDENTIALING, LICENSURE Required : State of Michigan LARA professional licensure in Social Work LLMSW, LMSW, Counseling LLC, LPC, or Psychology, LLP.
