Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Trade Manager and the guidance of the Lead Electrician, performs maintenance, repair, and alterations of all campus electrical equipment and machinery including but not limited to : campus electrical power supply (secondary, medium voltage 120v, 208v, 240v, 277v, 480v ), PV systems, switchgear, building management and control systems, light fixtures such as lamp, ballast or drivers (LED ballast) replacement, repair and make alterations to existing lighting system to a modernized energy efficient solution, commercial and residential equipment and machinery.
Oversees contractor in maintaining the campus fire alarm system, campus clocks and bell system. Plan, set up, and take down of any electrical needs for KS events.
All electrical work shall be in accordance with the guidelines and regulations of the current electrical and building codes.
Essential Responsibilities
Performs electrical work which includes constructing, installing, maintaining, repairing and testing of electrical wiring systems, electrical controls, electrically operated equipment or instruments and light and heavy electrical machinery.
Plans, trouble shoots and maintains various types of fire alarm systems on campus.
Receives and reviews work orders, works with staff to determine methods and sequence of operations and estimates time, labor, materials and other resources needed;
obtains additional information from requesters as necessary.
- Identifies and provides material requirements to accomplish assigned work.
- Insures completed work meets quality standards and is in accordance with current regulations of the electrical and building codes.
- Works with other trades staff to coordinate workflow and schedules to ensure efficient completion of projects.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.
- High School Diploma / Equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of Journeyman Electrician work experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Current State of Hawaii Journeyman Electrician License.
- Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, equipment manuals, and drawings as well as verbal and written descriptions.
- Ability to make shop calculations using arithmetic, geometry, algebra and a working knowledge of electricity and magnetism.
- Ability to work at heights above 8 feet on scaffolding, ladders or lifts.
- Knowledgeable in the lock-out / tag-out procedures and safety of the work area, circuits and equipment being worked on.
- Performs work with due regard for safety of self and follow workers, exercising proper care and protection of KS property.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with high-voltage equipment, lines and transformers.
- Basic operating knowledge of PV systems with battery storage capabilities.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Stands and / or walks while performing work in the shop or at a jobsite; frequently lifts 10-20 lbs. occasionally heavy lifting (more than 20 lbs.) is required.
- Various body positions may be required which include, twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions (including environmental conditions)
- Generally office or shop setting. However depending on the work site, the work may be strenuous and include conditions that are dusty, dirty, hot, or wet with cramped and / or noisy conditions.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
Provides 24 hour on-call emergency service.
