Summit Design and Engineering is seeking a qualified Professional Land Surveyor to join our team in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple, concurrent projects that variously involve control surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA / NSPS surveys, boundary surveys, route / corridor surveys, as-built surveys, and construction staking
- Prepare proposals, negotiate contract scope and fees, And participate in project accounting and billing
- Ensure prescribed safety practices are followed and oversee quality control for project deliverables
- Play a central role in coordination and communication with project stakeholders
- Lead, supervise, and mentor / develop subordinates
- Perform CAD drafting, data processing, and other survey project tasks as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications
- NC Professional Land Surveying licensure or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Prefer a minimum of eight years of progressive land surveying experience
- In-depth knowledge of surveying practices, methodologies, techniques, and standards
- Minimum three years in a management or supervisory role
- Proven project management skills
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills and understanding of mapping concepts
- Self-motivated with good time management skills
- Extensive GNSS surveying experience
- Robotic total station and precise differential leveling survey experience
- Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Proficient with Trimble or equivalent survey data processing software
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Valid Driver's license with good driving record and ability to drive
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Associated or Baccalaureate degree in surveying, geomatics, or an engineering degree
- Professional land surveying licensure from one or more additional southeastern states
- Basic proficiency with Bently MicroStation
- Experience with GIS data collection and Esri ArcGIS Pro software
- Experience with terrestrial laser scanning
- Experience with photogrammetric and LiDAR aerial surveys
- Experience with NCDOT route location survey practices and procedures
- Certified Drone Pilot (Remote Pilot Certificate; FAA Part 107)
Working Conditions
This position is primarily office based, but also requires job site visit and occasional overnight travel. The work environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and client driven.
Physical Requirements
The position requires extended periods of time being seated or standing in front of a computer, periods of time travelling in a vehicle to / from project sites, and when working in the field, carrying survey equipment with weights of up to 45 pounds.
