The primary responsibilities of the Paramedic include the following :
- Provide medical support for air medical evacuations as determined by the primary medical providers (physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants) that does not exceed the scope of practice.
- Trained and knowledgeable in-flight medic procedures operating primarily in a transport environment.
- Provided all services in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity is recognized.
Qualifications :
- Hold and maintain a current unrestricted U.S. (State) Paramedic license.
- Hold and maintain a valid U.S.Passport.
- National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic Preferred (NREMT-P), required.
- Prefer an active Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C)
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Paramedic is required.
- Must hold and maintain current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and an advanced trauma course (PHTLS / TCCC / ITLS).
- Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program (CCEMTP) or other Critical Care training course and certification desirable.
- Experience as a military Flight Medic, Combat Medic or Navy Corpsman is desirable.
Duties and Responsibilities :
All Paramedic candidates shall have the skills and ability to perform : Medical support as a flight paramedic during aeromedical evacuations.
Examines patients, performs physical exams.Documentation and maintenance of patient records.Therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, management of infection, EKG’s, etc.
Direct patient care, including at a minimum : Assessment and diagnosisIntravenous / Intraosseous accessVenous blood drawEndotracheal intubationMedication administration3 / 12 lead electrocardiogram (EKGs) interpretation
- Knowledge of medications
- Duties within their scope of practice as dictated by their license.
- Health promotion and preventative care.
- Function as the medical crew member.
- Operate aircraft equipment and comply with crew coordination procedures.
- Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklist and provide pilot assistance when needed (i.e. radio, navigational and visual observation activities).
- May require overnight stays.
- Participates in loading and unloading of patients at originating and destination facilities.
- Other duties as required.
Other Requirements :
- Must have a valid, current U.S. Driver’s License.
- Background check required.
- Must be proficient in the ability to speak, write and communicate in English.
- Travel to and between CONUS locations is required.
Physical Requirements :
- Capable of responding to a wide variety of operational circumstances, under extreme weather conditions.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from aircraft.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and work in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, aircraft, and vehicles.
- Required to kneel, bend, sit and lift heavy objects for extended periods of time.
