Job Summary

We are hiring 2 Fleet Shop Maintenance Aide 1 positions.

This is a part-time position supporting the Equipment & Fleet Supply Chain and Upfit / Maintenance lines of business, primarily performing duties in support of the fleet maintenance shop, parts storeroom, and the motor pool fleet in day-to-day operations.

Duties of the position will be limited to the basic tasks and expanded as proficiency is improved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • General shop and parts storeroom clean up.
  • Empty trash cans.
  • Scrap metal and used tire disposal.
  • Emptying waste oil collection barrels
  • Used oil filter disposal.
  • Clean and inspect shop machinery.
  • Parts storeroom organization.
  • Parts pick up & delivery.
  • Moving Inventory Stock.
  • Minor clerical duties.
  • Operating and inspecting forklifts.
  • Clean, inspect, and fuel motor pool vehicles.
  • General fuel site and wash bay cleaning.
  • Jumpstart vehicles.
  • Transporting vehicles and equipment.

Supervision Received and Exercised :

Works under close supervision.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or a GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to set job priorities and meet deadlines with minimal instruction.
  • A self-starter who can work as part of a team and is reliable, dependable, flexible, and works for teams’ success.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally, in writing, and using a computer in a concise manner.
  • Ability to work with many interruptions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, physical and manual dexterity.
  • Good work record with demonstrated ability to adhere to safety procedures, work rules and guidelines.
  • Must possess a valid Washington driver’s license by date of hire. Must have and maintain a good driving record according to Department standards.

Proof required at the time of interview.

Desired qualifications / work experience (But not required)

  • Prior experience with vehicle maintenance.
  • Prior experience with stock room organization.
  • Basic computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.

Applicants will be disqualified under the following circumstances :

Violations - More than two (2) moving violations in the preceding three years; Reckless driving violation within the preceding three years;

DUI within the preceding three years.

Accidents - More than one (1) motor vehicle accident within the preceding three years for which the applicant received a traffic or criminal citation and was convicted, forfeited bail, or entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere .

Work involves walking, standing, stooping, crawling, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

  • The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and / or carry up to 75 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is typical of a mechanical repair facility.

This is a Teamsters union position.

Part-Time Employee : A partially benefited employee who is appointed to serve in a position that will average 28 hours per week or less over a one-year period.

If hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month period, part-time employees will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage as required by law.
