Part-Time Dispatcher

OVERVIEW

The dispatcher maintains a high level of service by assigning work to bus operators. The position is also responsible informing maintenance of equipment in need of service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responsible for dispatch coverage from 12 : 45pm - 9 : 15pm on Wednesdays and 6am - 10am on Saturdays.
• Serves as the fill-in dispatcher when the full-time dispatchers are on vacation or using a sick day.
• Responsible for the daily assignment of work on the extra board
• Responsible for the daily assignment of equipment (buses)
• Responsible for the scheduling and assignment of extra work as it becomes available
• Opens and closes the facility and coordinates with maintenance for the necessary equipment to operate the prescribed level of service.
• Monitors and controls drivers' reports and turn-ins.
• Issues work orders and assignments as needed
• May hold or release "line ups" as required to maintain service
• Monitors and assists operators with check points, road calls, emergencies, transfers, accidents, equipment checks, deviations, detours, schedule changes and other procedures.
• Controls radio communicates in a professional manner providing operators and staff assistance, guidance, and instructions.
• Provides prompt and friendly customer service via telephone regarding route and scheduling information.
• Assists with revenue collection procedures.
• Performs other duties as required by the Operations Manager.

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently when handling documents, files, and other paperwork.
• Ability to repetitively bend and twist the back.
• Ability to constantly sit for 5 to 55 minutes.
• Ability to twist neck 90 degrees on both sides.
• Physical activity includes, but is not limited to balancing, handling radio, hearing, holding, repetitive motion of wrists, hands, arms and / or fingers while using computer, radio, filing, etc.
• Seeing, sitting, standing, stooping, talking, turning pages, and writing various documents. Collating, feeling, grasping, handling, holding, sorting, fingering reports, and documents;

reaching below waist, reaching waist to shoulder, when using file cabinet; seeing computer screen, talking, and hearing when discussing personnel situations and turning pages.

• Must be able to pass a routine physical examination, a pre-employment drug screen and background checks (including criminal).
• Must participate in ongoing random drug / alcohol testing. This is a safety sensitive position.
• Must maintain at least a satisfactory level of work performance evaluations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum qualification of a high school education or the equivalent.
• Ability to make independent decisions.
• Must have the ability to understand and communicate with figures and through a radio network.
• Previous training or experience with a bus system preferred.
• Must have knowledge of the City of Fort Wayne Street network.

Must be able to pass an annual physical examination and alcohol / drug test and participate in ongoing random drug and alcohol testing.
