Compensation Overview :
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country.
The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role;
the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.
Salary Range : $222,700.00 - $356,500.00

What Is the Opportunity?
The VP in Catastrophe Risk Management is a senior analytic leadership role that encompasses broad strategic vision development, strategy execution, operational, and talent responsibilities for the enterprise Catastrophe Risk Management department.
This unit is part of the Enterprise Risk Group and partners with our business segments to evaluate and manage catastrophe risk, including natural and manmade catastrophes.
This role is expected to promote and drive change within the assigned business area and across the Travelers.
This position offers a unique opportunity for an individual who can strive in an analytical, innovation-driven environment, in tune with business needs.
You will be responsible for enterprise initiatives and a dedicated team of scientific and analytic subject matter experts focused on leveraging actionable science, implementing sophisticated multivariate weather models, conducting advanced research across all major catastrophe perils, developing emerging capabilities, and making recommendations to enable timely and informed risk management decisions.
As a member of the Catastrophe Risk Management leadership team, you will be actively engaged in the development of our catastrophe loss estimates utilized in risk aggregation management, risk reward evaluation, and business strategy.
This position offers high visibility and opportunities for interaction with senior management.
What Will You Do?
- Strategy :
- Develop organizational strategy and long-term vision. Influence and communicate strategic portfolio recommendations to senior leaders at the Enterprise and Business Unit level.
- Create environment for the successful execution and completion of entire strategic portfolio of peril initiatives.
- Strategic peril research planning to maximize productivity of staff and impact to the business.
- Be a leader of change and innovation across the organization.
- Lead Enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Operational :
- Recommend decisions resulting from team’s analytic analyses.
- Empower day to day execution within department.
- Improve what we do and how we do it.
- Advance our catastrophe peril research capabilities.
- Communication :
- Communicate regularly with staff, peers, business partners, and senior leaders.
- Tailor communication of analysis to audience.
- Lead group discussions with multiple disciplines.
- Talent :
- Direct management of a team of leaders.
- Acquisition, retention, and development of talent.
- Performance management including workforce planning.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- College degree in STEM or business-related field.
- 15+ years of quantitative analysis experience.
- FCAS or related credentials preferred.
- Extensive catastrophe risk management experience preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of catastrophe models preferred.
What is a Must Have?
- Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Decision Sciences, Actuarial Science or related analytical STEM field plus nine years of experience.
- Heavy concentration in mathematics and data science tools.
