Position Summary
The department at the University at Buffalo is seeking a Sr. Buyer . The Sr. Buyer will support the purchasing needs of university researchers, faculty, and support staff in alignment with procurement policies, funding sources and in compliance with all Federal, State, Research Foundation (RF), SUNY, and University standards and regulations.
The selected candidate must have excellent communication skills as they will be responsible for communicating and negotiating with suppliers and internal stakeholders on complex procurements.
A detailed-oriented and organized individual is essential for this role, as they will be responsible for handling multiple tasks simultaneously, while utilizing an e-Procurement system.
The Sr. Buyer must be a problem-solver with a strong work ethic, as well as superior customer service skills. The successful candidate should also be capable of satisfying end-users needs in a professional, effective and timely manner.
In this position, the Sr. Buyer performs a variety of duties, including but not limited to :
- Creates bid specifications for multi-year, complex and larger dollar bids.
- Generates contracts and correspondence from resulting specification and bid results.
- Identify issues, risks, and potential liabilities and report these to supervisor and / or legal counsel.
- Apply applicable law in the preparation of non-template contracts.
- Manage the strategic sourcing and contract life cycle process, including planning, researching, collaborating, authoring, negotiating, and executing.
- Utilize an e-Procurement system in support of operational and strategic procurement tasks.
- Interact with the Office of the State Attorney General, Office of the State Comptroller, State University of New York Counsel and The Research Foundation for the State University of New York Counsel, as needed.
- Proactively support supplier diversity program goals.

Bachelor’s degree in business related studies or similar body of contract and analytical type work with 2 years of experience.
A combination of education and experience can be considered in lieu of the requirement
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
- Experience with Microsoft products
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Business related studies.
- 1 or more years experience managing the contract life cycle process, developing basic level contracts, proposals, bids, and evaluation of awarding above is preferred for this position.
